When It Looks Like Your Home But It's Not

And so the story that began on March 15th, when my husband and I moved to El Paso to be nearer our grandsons, continues.
It is all good even though we have not found a house.
Let me rephrase.
We found a house- a fixer upper to be exact- whose inspection later revealed all sorts of hidden issues that were not part of the plan,
and so we said thank you but no thank you.

It was going to be amazing, I thought,
even though my entire family disliked the house.

And so here we are.
Why have I not lost it?
Because I believe more will be revealed, and
because so many things in my daughter’s home look like my home-

I feel at home.

These plates from Mexico sitting against
the Saltillo tile in her kitchen look just like something I had/will have in my kitchen.

I found 12 of these plates in a small shop on a bottom
shelf in Old Mesilla , New Mexico last year.
They became an early birthday gift for her, and they look wonderful in her
kitchen.

This is the hallmark on the back.
She has other wonderful treasures that I often teasingly ask,
“Is that mine?”
I love this ginger jar,
and I gave her a pair of these large ginger jars with blue chevron stripes for another birthday.
They caused a real motherly moral dilemma which mentally sounded like this:
“I want these- I need to give them to Heather- I want these- I need to give these to Heather”.

*****
And so the message here as we move into June dear friends is that
more really will be revealed.
We really can find our home even if we are temporarily living in someone else’s.
I hope things are going well for you all.
My dear friend Anna gently chided me on the phone this morning as she said-
“you need to get back to blogging”.
She is right!

Great to hear from you, Laura. Yes, get back to blogging soon! LOL! This is coming from the one that keeps saying to herself give up blogging you need to do other things with your time!!!
I am glad you didn't get involved with a money pit. You were protected and that is a great blessing. The right house will come.
I enjoyed your post. It is gratifying to see your daughter enjoy things you have given her. You know I love blue and white as much as you.
Laura, I never see bougainvillea that I don't think of you. I almost bought some earlier in the season and regret I procrastinated.
Enjoy your family and keep in touch. Instagram is fun and quicker.

So Nice to hear how things are going. Love all the blue and white. Remain steadfast; our last home took us 12 offers on 11 different homes before we were able to purchase. Ironically, we previously had offered on the home we purchased, we were pushed out in a multiple offer situation by a higher offer from another buyer. The higher offer buyer failed to obtain funding, and we finally had a house. We lived happily in that home 11 years. We were for a while "neighbors" (you and me), we previously lived in the Lake Travis area.

The "right" home will present itself, though it must not feel it will. Maybe think outside the box; loft, warehouse, reuse of a structure?
Wishing you happy house finding!

Sweet Laura, the right HOUSE door will open for you my friend. Hang in there. Oh I love the blues in your daughter's home. You cracked me up about asking her "Is this mine". I do that with my three girls too but the truth is....IT IS MINE! LOL! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

So, so good to hear from you and I'm so sorry you are still "homeless." But, glad you have such a lovely home to hand your hat for now. Her decor is so much like yours, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree does it? Do keep us posted!

I'm so glad to see you back on blog, Laura. It must be frustrating not having your own space or be able to settle yet but I'm glad you feel comfortable and at home and were happy with the move. (Smart on the fixer upper -- a good pass.)

And all the blue! I remember that about your blog and I love it! Those plates from Mexico are fabulous!

Though it seems like a setback, God's plans are bigger and better than ours. And with God there is no Plan B. ;) Happy house hunting!

Every season has treasures to be discovered, even those that find us seemingly displaced. God is in the middle of it all. Happy house finding!
