There is a kind of cooking that takes place in a kitchen that is the best kind.
It usually happens on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when things feel easy and slow and simple.
It becomes the perfect time to whip up something special with what you have on hand.
It may be a pan of brownies because you have a mix on hand, or a chocolate sheet cake with chocolate icing because you have Hershey's cocoa in the pantry, or it could be Cherry Dessert, one of our favorite Ranch Recipes.
I baked banana bread from this simple recipe in La Pinata.
yield: one loaf (I always double the recipe)

Mmmm, I just happen to have some bananas that need to be transformed. :)
That cherry dessert looks like one I used to make back in the seventies. I think I need to start making that again now for the grandkids.
Laura, I love these posts! You sound so much like me about your love of cooking. I love making special things on the weekends for my family. It is the best time! I just made that cherry dessert last week. It is one of my family's favorites! I hope that you have a happy and blessed day!!!
Sweet post Laura! Simple comforting recipes are the best! Therapeutic in fact!
Happy Monday

What a great way to keep recipes and remind your children of the very best things in life! love it.
I love this! I do the same thing. I have learned to have certain staples in my baking cupboard so that I can bake on a whim. The cherry dessert and banana bread sound delicious!
Well, I may not be one of YOUR dear daughters, but I do love doing exactly what you do -- cooking on a Saturday or Sunday, a lazy day, smelling good things and the oven toasting up the house. It looks delicious, Laura.
Hi Laura!!! I am not sure why your blog dropped off my sidebar. I just saw your face and, because I was gone from blogging for quite a while, I thought you had quit posting. Anyway- I saw your face and thought THERE SHE IS! It is so nice to see a post from you. There is nothing more special than mom/daughter cooking/baking. I hope you have a wonderful week. xo Diana
Such a sweet post, Laura and banana bread is such a comfort food! Pam @ Everyday Living
Dear Laura, I always enjoy your Dear Daughter's blogging. Especially with having three daughters of my own. You make me smile and laugh. Thanks for the recipe too. YUM! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
I have to agree with you about cooking up something special on an easy, slow day. That's usually Sunday in my house. My husband will cook up the main meal, and it inspires me to bake a tasty dessert to go with it. The cherry dessert looks great, and I LOVE banana bread :)

Good Afternoon Laura, I love days when I can bake as I find it so relaxing. Plus there is nothing like home baking to fill a room with adorable aromas.
I love cherries and I love banana bread... hits on both counts for me.
Enjoy your day.
Best Wishes
Daphne
