A while back, I opened door number 3
and joined the world of DIY painting bloggers, whose work I completely admire.
Truly, I do.
Now granted,
this admiration usually occurs from afar, while sitting in my chair, my laptop perched in my lap, with the AC
blasting.
As I click on page after page of DIY painted perfection, I am usually mumbling, “…how in the world did
she do that?”.
I am the Anti Paint Tutorial Blogger.
I was part of a DIY team, in my own driveway, (with two of my daughters),
who have become very, very
BOSSY.
Five minutes into our project,
I was quickly demoted to third string painter,
and I was even accused of
“…trying to get out of things,
or skipping important steps in the painting process…”
Well, I never!
apply the primer to a campaign dresser that will
belong to Daughter #3,
once it is painted in a turquoise color called Beach Towel
and its brass fittings are all shiny and gold.
Easily distracted, I wondered if Zinsser makes
under eye concealer.
I am a slinger by trade, and when I complained about the primer, whose directions I did not follow,
I was then told to work on the campaign chest hardware.
This was a very hard job.
The previous owner of said campaign dresser
had spray painted the hardware with black paint.
(Truth be told, I don’t blame them…I feel their pain.)
This job involved dangerous, toxic chemicals, capable of removing layers of paint and skin.
(I did read those instructions.)
Daughter #3 had started this job,
all while I shouted out non-stop, possibly irritating warnings of
“Danger! Be Careful! Wear your gloves!”
I was demoted from this job
when they caught me trying to dip said hardware in my silver cleaning
liquid in the kitchen
There really is a project plan. I’ll let you know
when they let me know…
I wonder what my job will be tomorrow?

Reveal
Here’s my story: I have painted lots of furniture over the years, but a slinger personality, directions, and multiple steps don’t often mix .
I like it that way.
I hope you enjoyed this crazy White Spray Paint re-post.
I am positive that that is EXACTLY how things would go down with my two now that they "know more than mom" when it comes to DIY. They learned from the best ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow funny! I must be like you. I'm a mess when it comes to paint.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
How cute is this! Our daughters do become so bossy and you are the Mom and I am a Mom, so I just know that you are right!

wow Laura, this turned out Fabulous! love the color and the brass hardware. It was well worth the hard work...and demotions!
ReplyDeletep.s. the captcha is horrible, I could barely get this comment to go thru.
Wow - very professional, indeed!
ReplyDeleteThe truth is, I am a lot like you. Give me a pile of newspapers, a can of spray paint, an empty driveway and a windless day and I can paint anything!
Wow that's wonderful!! I love the color...I have a small wall in my home painted like that.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day
I am with you! Can I borrow your daughters to repaint all the furniture I have waiting on paint? How about kitchen cabinets? Do they do those? ;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, you are a rebel and a scofflaw!
ReplyDeletehilarious...both of my daughters and my daughter in law paint salvage furniture and I might add have paid off college loans, realtor books and soaker tubs with the money they have made in their garages. We call it slap coating around here.
ReplyDeleteI sit back and watch too...been there done that.
This is so chic! Love the color and all the brass. Did you get to keep this treasure? Or does it belong to one of the bosses?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful transformation.
ReplyDeleteyou and i are cut from the same cloth :) ha! love this post!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteThat is a fun post! I think I am in your camp in style of painter!
That chest turned out great!
Gorgeous piece of furniture, Laura!
ReplyDeleteDear Laura, hello! I am very pleased to meet you; I just saw that you visited my blog. WELCOME! First of all, I had been blogging for 7 years, really this is my 8th, but I took a very long break. I am back, but I am more on Instagram now.
ReplyDeleteNOW FOR THE PAINT! I too am a DIY painter, but I use Annie Sloan paint because I detest sanding and priming! I want quick results, and I've been pleased with my projects! Your piece here looks fabulous, and you'd never know what happened behind the scenes! LOL
Thank you for visiting me. To answer your question about my photography, really, I've just started back in May. I am a poet and hope to combine my improved photography with my writing some day. My Canon Rebel was also a tool I had no idea how to use to its fullest potential, and I still have a long way to go. However, a blogger pal called me one day and walked me through the steps to go into my settings menu and look for RAW. It is the highest quality you can take, and what a difference it's made. You can probably do it on your Canon as well. If you have any questions, just come back to my blog and let me know.
ENJOY! Anita
I love it -- being a slinger! I'm a slinger, too. I tend not to get too much into furniture though last summer I took on a desk that was adequate. Not fabulous But not bad. (Well, the cat walking through it didn't help.)
ReplyDeleteBut your finished project? Magnificent! Four stars!
Well, it looks gorgeous and you had me laughing through your whole post! I am not a painting kind of blogger either. Those days are behind me. I would rather make a pretty banner or wreath now and buy the furniture I want in my desired color! I can't decide if that means I'm getting lazy or old. ;) It really is pretty though!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteThis turned out beautifully! Enjoyed reading this post and chuckled a few times as it reminds me of me! I have been dying to open door #3 myself but for some reason feel a bit intimidated by these projects. I think I will try! Or at least put it on my list of things to do this year!!!
