My Flea Market Running Buddy

Aside from Hauler 2 (my Tahoe), my flea market cart is my all time non-human running buddy.

However important my cart is, Hauler 2  makes it all happen.

If I were a cowboy, Hauler 2 would be my horse.

My cart is always in the back of Hauler 2.

Here are the things my cart must do:

It must be heavy enough to not bounce around in the back of Hauler 2.

It must be willing to have groceries and plants piled on top of it without complaining.

It must be quiet. I am not a fan of squeaking.

It must be light enough I can pop it open easily once we arrive.

It needs to pull in both directions- whether I am pushing it or pulling it .

In a perfect world it would swivel. Sometimes my cart feels like swiveling and sometimes it doesn’t.

I am the same way.

Years ago I dressed it in an oil cloth monogrammed liner I bought at Canton, but we were over all of that preciousness pretty quickly.

Pink checks and hot pink ribbon are not a good look for ladies of a certain age , human or otherwise.

Regardless, the liner serves an important purpose: small things can’t fall through the slats, and it is recognizable.

Why is being recognizable important?

Because I park it and walk away… often

On a typical day at the flea market (la pulga in South Texas), it might sound something like this.

Me- to no one in particular:   “Donde esta mi carrito?”

No one in particular:   “Aqui esta.”

Me-  “Gracias”.

And then we laugh.

It always has a hair clip clipped on the handle and sun screen rolling around in its depths.

I go to the flea market most of the year in 90-100 degree weather.

Lately I have noticed its age.

One wheel is loose and sometimes it doesn’t move very fast.

We are perfect running buddies because I don’t either.

I have one of these... no make that two. One for the flea market and one for the laundry hamper in the bathroom. I forget about that one... I bought a mesh liner and put in there and placed a heavy-duty-destined-for-the donate-box- placemat in the bottom, you know, to keep things from falling out! like socks and undies. ;)
It serves me well as a laundry hamper!
the other serves me well as a TREASURE HAULER... in fact, too well, I can't count the number of treasures I've hauled home in that cart!
yours is pretty... pink check and all!

  2. I think it's beautiful!! The only cart I have is a beach cart, big wheels that roll over the sand. Perfect, but kind of heavy for daily use. My friend has one like yours and and it sure comes in handy at flea markets :) Thank you so much for your kind comments about my brother. He's a blessing!

P.S. I'm a little worrid about that wheel.

  4. HaHa! That was too funny. The best I can do is a sheet of plastic laid out in the back of my Tahoe. And today, I was hauling pine straw in it.

  5. Good post, and love your hauler. My husband uses a walking cane, and he calls it 'his horse'. You have a great sense of humor. Happy Thursday to you and both haulers! lol

  6. What a cutie! A girl has to have a flea market buddy. Do you come to Canton? It's just 45 minutes from my house! If you ever do come this direction, we'll have to meet. I'm going tomorrow. :)

  8. Hi Laura,
On any First Monday Weekend you are apt to find me wondering around Canton First Monday, with my "Canton Buggy". Your Buddy cover is adorable and has inspired me to dress my Buggy up just a bit. I wouldn't think of leaving my house without the "Canton Buggy". I always enjoy your post and thanks so much for sharing, have a great week!

  10. Now, that was just as cute a post as I've ever read. First, I drive a Tahoe too and absolutely love it and I, too, have a hauler that I have never used. I bought it with the intention of putting it to good use, but somehow it has stayed in the closet. Perhaps it needs to become my buddy too. Happy weekend!

  11. I would like to know where to get one of those. The only one I could find was plastic.

  12. That is just too cute, Miss Laura! Love your running buddy, it's really the neatest thing ever! And people keep track of it for you too, now that is hilarious!

Great post, dear friend! Did you do it without Live Writer?

  13. HaHa! I have a cart just like that for the farmers market. No cute liner like yours though. It's perfect for hauling heavy loads of fruits and veggies down the aisles. Except I usually hit my heals with it :) I don't know what it's do with my SUV either - especially during garden season. Comes in handy with 2 grandboys too!

  16. This was a very cute post ;) My son delivered newspapers for years, and we bought a few of these carts ... each one eventually breaking down (usually in a winter snowstorm). Of course, he didn't have the monogrammed pink gingham liner on his.

  17. It comes as no surprise your cart is cute. Mine stands beside the garage fridge and holds my flags bc Canton seems to be a once in a lifetime thing...so far
