When Are You coming to my House?

IMG_5341                                                             My grandson’s game face.

So this is how it happens.

Yesterday afternoon , around 5:30 pm in the bread aisle of HEB, my phone rings.

And no it wasn’t 5:30 or 6:00 am when I usually grocery shop,  as discussed  here.

It was that grocery shopping time of day when nothing good is going to happen.

The wrong combination of people are usually at the grocery store that time of day.

So the phone rings, I answer, and the voice of my youngest grandson says-

“Madu, when are you coming to my house?”

At this point it is as if I am a special agent being called on assignment with the sound of some code phrase.

The grocery store noise falls away.

There is no question. There is no planning for a seven hour drive.  There is nothing else.

There is just that voice.

”Tomorrow,” I say
.

  2. I get this on so many levels...on my way to the grocery store now to avoid all the 5 pm turmoil..it's like my small town 5 o'clock traffic, only in aisle 3...and I am the beckon call girl for the sweet voices in my life!

  3. I don't know why this made me cry...I guess because I know the draw they (the grandchildren) have & how we will move heaven & earth for them.

  4. I so understand the grocery thing. We ran in HEB with our #2 while in Texas and it was a mad house. She told me, " Mom, this is exactly why I don't shop on Sunday and wait until it is late and all the moms have put their kids to bed before I go." So sweet of your grandson.

  6. They can melt your hearts. Did you drive the 7 hours to see him. I would have done the same thing for sure.

  9. And as you were standing in the grocery aisle, at what point between Madu and house, did you lose your game face?
In life, that's what's called a home run.
