Something deep in my DNA responds to any opportunity or thought of
‘putting things by’.
So when freezing temperatures threatened this weekend,
my husband and I picked the remaining ripe navel oranges off the tree in our backyard.
We have been eating them from this basket on our kitchen counter all weekend long .
Have you ever had a sweet, tree- ripened orange?
It is one of life’s great pleasures.

I adore that scripture and think about it all the time. Helps me reduce stress some days. :)
Not sure that I've had an orange right off the tree. Bet it's heavenly!
I bet there is nothing sweeter than an orange ripe off the tree. I am in love with your plaque as well. I love that verse! Hope you are staying warm. Our daughter sent us pics the other day of the dusting on her car in Waco. Crazy weather we are all having this year.
The oranges are beautiful! I bet they WERE tasty!
You have no idea how wonderful it sounds to go in the backyard and pick a basket of oranges when all I see is snow! Lovely photos :-)
Hi Laura, ( my daughter's name also) thanks for visiting my blog and for following. I will be following you as well. I enjoyed the post 'un-know'. Look forward to future posts.

Nothing better than picking fruit right off the tree and eating right then! Scrumptious. Noting like it. Your oranges look great and oh so orange. My favorite! Beautiful scripture, dear friend~
Hugs,
Nancy
Yes - I have had a sweet orange just picked fresh from the tree, but many years ago.
Temps nice today, but back in the deep freeze tomorrow. :(
Have a great week.
I've never had a fresh orange like this, but apples, strawberries, veggies, etc. I can imagine how juicy they are! :)
XO,
Jane
For the first time in my life I did have an orange off the tree. It was delicious. The funny thing was my husband cut the orange in half and left it for several days on the counter before I tasted it. It was exceptional and I was shocked. Wish I could say we grew it but a friend shared it with me.
I don't have full sun in my yard so I can't grow them. You are blessed to enjoy the fruit of your labor. Love the scripture you shared. Blessings, Bonnie
The only orange juice I like is fresh squeezed from the fruit, and I love that kind!
Oh, Yes! That was one of the things I missed most when I moved here -leaving my fruit trees behind. Nothing in the world like a fresh orange right off a tree-unless it is a Key Lime!;>) xo Diana
I have not had one of those treats! My mouth is watering:) Enjoy your day dear Laura, HUGS!
The scripture is wonderful and newly to them, I am taking to heart such as Phil 4:8. And to answer your question....YES! I have and I miss it. I was born and raised in South Florida and had many citrus trees growing in our yard that I took advantage of. Avocado's that were the size of a large man's shoe instead of these measly things they pass off as avocados from CA. Bananas...sigh...It's hard to come by such things up here in the mountains of NC nowadays. LOL Thanks for the trip down memory lane. XD
Hello Fellow Texan!
In one of our old houses, we used to have a beautiful orange tree back when my niece and nephew were little. One of my niece's favorite things to do was to help her Nanny pick them right off the tree. Good times.
Kristin
There is just something special about a piece of fruit that has not been driven around the country before you get to enjoy it. Lovely photo.
M~
I've never lived anywhere close to Citrus trees..Apples, cherries and Peaches..Yes..They're wonderful right off the tree..
Yes, my tree had exactly one this year. But, it was a big one. You Texans have it all. Weather, BIGGER, et al.
I'll trade you a snowball for an orange anytime. They look wonderful!

BTW- If you learn how to knit soon would you mind teaching me?:;) Lori
One of these years I'm hoping to plant a tree, orange and grapefruit...love the first photo of the basket of oranges! Thanks for your visit, and I'll be following along with you too!
Very pretty kitchen counter and love your fresh oranges in the fruit basket. I just picked fresh lemons a couple of weeks ago and they are very big and juicy! Nice to have fresh picked fruit this time of the year. I have a (red) fruit basket just like yours that was my grandmothers and I love to display. Enjoying your blog and following now. Enjoy this warm weekend!
