Yes, I have a list of garden tasks,
which I am nonchalantly trying to incorporate into conversations with my unsuspecting/suspicious husband,
as in:
Me: “Hmmm. Who do you think will win the Super Bowl, and we really need to clean out and seal all of the fountains.”
Him: silence…
Next on my list?
Re-attaching St. Francis’s head to his body.

many years ago, my friend Fran helped me get this concrete statue home.
And lastly?
Figuring out what all of these garden bloggers, who have beautiful flower beds, mean
when they refer to it all
as carefree gardening.

ReplyDeleteI'm with you. There's no such thing as "carefree gardening." And the older I get, the harder it gets, but oh, so worth the efforts.
ReplyDeleteWhen you look at Pinterest and they talk about carefree or plant at this certain date, don't you just laugh? Or plant a row of knockout roses with a hostas in front of them? Those articles honestly bug me because it depends entirely on where you live, how hot it is, how dry it is, etc. Only someone who has actually planted and sweated would know that though.
ReplyDeleteWe had a couple of statues that broke when we moved and I did find adhesive that worked. I'll try to dig that up and tell you the name. Now tell me more about your little pond, please. :) You know we had the huge one at our last house and I'm trying to talk Paul into a small one here.

ReplyDeleteOn 2.5 acres it is hard, slogging work. There are about two weeks in early June when things are perfect but otherwise it is one big chore after another - worth it for the colour, the beauty, the sense of accomplishment.
I don't like gardening to be too much work, but I did weed more last summer. I love zillions of flowers, though.

ReplyDeleteLaura, good icy morning to you! I'm just west of San Antonio where we're hunkering in until we know if our jobs will continue today or not. Meanwhile, I'm trying to catch up with my favorite blogs. I do hope that you will post how you repair your St Francis, since I also have one who has lost his head. I have a one-winged angel who needs fixing, too. "Carefree" gardening....that's when you hire someone to do it for you! Not around here! I got lots to do when it warms up. But looking forward to it.

Carefree gardening is when somebody else does the work.
ReplyDeleteMy friend had a St. Francis statue at the end of her swimming pool. A friend brought his new girl friend to visit. One of the first announcements girl friend made was that she was a practicing Catholic. She then looked out the window and exclaimed, "You have a statue of St. John the Baptist!"

I'll remember that when I'm lugging the hose around to water this summer when the temps are 90 degrees or more and the humidity is 100 percent! Haha!
