Hacked Blog Comments

IMG_8247

Help!

I recently went back into my archives to read old posts,

and it looks like my comments  were hacked.

There were all sorts of comments advertising medications and other various and sundry items.

Is this because I allow anonymous comments?

Does this mean my blog has been hacked?

Any suggestions or remedies?

  2. I have my comments set for registered users only! Also, I set comment moderation for posts over 14 days old. If anyone tries to post a comment on an older post, you would have to ok it to post! Hope that helps! HUGS!

  3. Hello Laura, I was having that problem too just recently. I also have my comments set for registered users and that has stopped all of the anonymous comments coming through. They still come to spam but that is easy enough to get rid of. Hope this works!

  4. Go to Settings› Posts and comments
and set it to Comment Moderation mark ~ SOMETIMES ~ For posts older than X number of days ..

I have mine set at 12 days.
This way you can keep up with what's coming through.. hope it helps. hugs, Cherry

  5. i had to do what cherry suggested...i started getting all kinds of strange, weird comments...instead of having to delete them i did the comment moderation...that seems to be working.

    good luck!

  6. i approve all my comments before they are posted, this way you have 100% control. anonymous people aren't all bad :-) all comments are emailed to me and decide the good and bad, easy peasy~ and no you weren't hacked, just violated...

  7. I went into "settings for comments" and checked to moderate all comments some time ago because of the same problem. Also, whatever you do, do not click on any site or a link included in those comments. I went back looking for a something I posted about not long after I started blogging and found some "not nice" stuff left under comments. I immediately started "comment moderation", then spent many hours going back and checking to make sure I found and deleted any others. Sure hope I found and deleted them all as I would hate to think someone visited my blog and clicked on something like that.
I personally chose to moderate all comments (not just on those past a certain time), and am glad I did.
    Any questions, let me know.

  9. You haven't been hacked just spammed. I see a lot of people have told you where to go to change settings so you can control the comments that get on your blog. Choose what works for you.

  12. I have seen this before. I love going to blogs and looking at their older posts and yes the comments too. That is when I find what you are talking about. I also have comment moderation on my posts that are over 7 days. Hope that helps.

  13. I have found some spam on my blog, but I delete it immediately, and never click on it. There is a header for "spam comments" on your blogger dashboard... I go in and delete them once in a while. I also delete any I find on the posts themselves. So far, I have not had to moderate.

  14. I use comment moderation on my blog all of the time, because without it, I immediately received spam comments (not that I receive more than 1 or 2 comments per post anyway, even though the readership is much higher).

I do not use word verification though, since I find that annoying, but I don't think anyone should have a problem with waiting a little bit for their comment to appear (to be approved/moderated). It works for me and keeps spam off my blog.

  15. I have had the same happen, its because companies can set us robots to do it, it is something to do with SEO, I am not 100% sure how it works but this is what I have been told, just delete them off :)

  16. I've started getting those type of comments too, and am going to add the "prove you're not a robot" button. that might help hopefully.

  18. I was being bombarded with spam...up to 12 spam comments on each post! Now I moderate every comment before it is posted.
