Dear Daughters,
I had the opportunity lately to ask two complete strangers how they handle the stress.
Time out: about the stranger business.
You know that is how I roll.
If I am not complimenting someone for the million bracelets running up her arm, or asking who cuts her hair (the million dollar question!), I may also ask something like,
”How do you handle the stress?”
Stranger A said: Prayer.
You see I knew that.
I know that.
Sometimes though when God can’t get through because of my delight in being stubborn and my ‘I can do that’ mentality, a messenger is nice.
Hence, Stranger A.
A short time later, as I was standing in line with Stranger B, I turned to her and asked,
”How do you handle the stress?”
And she said: Prayer and by not looking back and not looking forward.
Contrary to what you might be thinking, this is not bad news.
This is a manifesto for intentional, one day at a time living.
Isn’t that nice?
Now go find a stranger.
I love you more each day,
Mom

I adore your wise letters to your daughters..they are one of my favorite things to read!
if you would have asked me this question that's the exact answer I would have given...but really...we aren't strangers are we?
RAH!! I enjoy brief conversations with total strangers, usually while "waiting" for something..did it with a lady at my hair gal's place. topic? her daddy's health and PRAYER!! yep. Bingo. Vet Office...Enduring the intense chill in Iowa right now. Everybody has something to say, if we just (on purpose)give a minute of time. ((HUGS)) Love your post. Have a Fabulous Friday! xo
Me too, PRAYER keeps me going:) I love chatting with strangers! Sometimes they just need someone to talk too! Have a blessed day dear Laura, HUGS!
Oh how simple. Prayer for sure, and the detail of looking neither back nor ahead, thanks for sharing this. Visiting from Edie's link up, but also now a subscriber. I hope this "Letters to Daughters" is a series. What a nice idea. xoxo
Also? We're almost neighbors. I'm north of the Red River, also on a little ranch... Nice to meet you!
Don't you love all the wonderful methods God uses to get through to us? Those strangers gave you great advice! Thanks for passing it on.:)
I did. I named him Cat Daddy.
Without prayer, you'd find me huddled in a corner. Because of it, you can find me most days on my knees.

Strangers often have the best advice.
God is good all the time. I don't believe in accidents. Those strangers were placed there for a purpose. One of my favorite scriptures: "God will comfort you and in turn use you to comfort others." Your post is an example of that in spades. Thanks. Cherry Kay
Wisdom in the checkout lane!
Are you sure you didn't run into my mum?
I love these bits of advice for your daughters. Now I'm going to check out the blog to which you've linked.
I usually hear God through strangers also.....smiles
What a wonderful reason to start making eye contact with strangers more often and be engaged. I've done it all my life, but you help me understand how those tiny moments of connection can translate into greater connection.
So looking forward to visiting with you more...
-Laura
