Outside My Window

Mercy.  I have so much to do to get the yard ready for spring,

and I am running late.

Note:  This is the point where I like to act like the farmer’s daughter that I am

and I act like- feel like there is a sense of urgency.

As in I need to get my crop in the ground.

But first, I need to clean.
IMG_0010Leaves.

Millions of leaves.

Leaves with a sense of humor.

Leaves that laugh behind your back as you sweep and rake and sweep some more.

And so while watching the Super Bowl, I am making my gardening to do list.

Number one on the list?

1. Leaves.

From the kitchen our Super Bowl supper is

my husband’s brisket,

my husband’s pinto beans,

and salad (my contribution).

Our appetizer was guacamole and tortilla chips.

I Am Thinking

I have become a scaredy cat.

I don’t like being frightened
at the movies or watching television.

I blame my brother.

Growing up he was always jumping out from behind a door to scare me.

It worked.

I  Am Thankful For…

leaves.

I know.

Everything is a riddle with me.

I am reading
….

blogs.

You are all so smart and talented.

I am going in about 5 minutes… to watch the Super Bowl kick-off.

One of my favorite things to do during all of the pre-game shows is

ask my husband questions-

especially about the NFL players from the past who are interviewed.

His answers are almost in a whisper as he remembers their greatness.

I am wearing

it doesn’t matter.

I just watched the Sandy Hook Elementary choir sing America the Beautiful

to start the Super Bowl.

Amazing.

  1. I live in Texas too & you're right... it's time to start planning as spring is knocking on our door! No deep snow here right?

Loved your post! That first photo caught my eye because a friend of mine made that in PMC silver clay (as a necklace) for a friend of hers this Christmas. It was amazing! Enjoy the game!

  2. I was traveling home today and I too was thinking about all the things that I need to do in the yard. I think I will try roses again this year. I have before but not in the right location. I will research before planting this year.

  3. I spent part of yesterday peeling old leaves off the gravel drive. I'd thought I'd got them all in the fall, but some sneaked back and settled into slimy layers. The good news is that I could just peal them up with the rake.
The game is on here, too.

  4. Yes - I also have a major cleanup to do also. My flower bed needs major help, but to cold to deal with it now. Dinner sounds yummy.

  5. Oh...I have months to plan my garden. You are so lucky there in Texas to be thinking about your "crops" already! :)

I'm not a football fan at all, but I did see a bit of the halftime show. Some day soon I hope, the Bears will be in it, then I'll watch...maybe.

    XO,

  8. My hubby calls me a frustrated farmer's daughter because I have such a small space to grow stuff. I'm looking to the new year of growing too, but being a few zones north of you know I can't start clean up until March. February is so unpredictable. I'm starting the lists. I'd take more leaves. So good for the soil.

  9. Getting rid of yard debris is a great feeling as we head into spring. Last time we were home I got the itch to get out there and get my hands dirty. Maybe next time.

  13. Enjoyed!!! ;-) And I don't EVEN want to think about the yard and gardening... All I see is snow, snow, snow! and "I can't think about that right now. If I do, I'll go crazy. I'll think about that tomorrow!" *(THANK YOU, Scarlett O'Hara!) lol lol! Hugs to you Laura, Have fun with your raking. I'll do my shoveling here. xoxo

  14. That reminds me of my yard. Maybe when the weather gets warmer here in Arkansas, I'll get the motivation to start some flowerbeds.
