Mantel 2011
The seasonal history blogging creates
is so much fun.
It is a wonderful reminder of the
standing in the middle of our respective homes
that we all did earlier this month ,
surrounded with plastic tubs marked
FALL.
Mantel 2010
That standing and sorting and trying this and moving that certainly creates our mantel for that fall season,
but it is also a time for me to
*pray prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude
*pray for what ails us or others
*shoo away the fear
* and in a more practical sense think,
”I can NOT buy another pumpkin.”
Mantel 2012
And I am sure you are not surprised that I have a philosophy about
decorating for the seasons.
Once seasonally decorated, I like my house to look like it has on a pair of cool shoes
or a great necklace,
as opposed to wearing a costume.

Best Halloween costume advice I gave my girls?
Pick out a costume where you still get to look good.

Your advice reminds me of a story.... my daughter when 20 was going to be a Gnome for Halloween. My older daughters friend said to her.... "you mean like a sexy Gnome?". She couldn't believe my daughter would wear a costume where she didn't get to look good. She also didn't believe my daughter when she said no, just a regular gnome!

Such an elegant mantel, Laura. Thanks for your visit and follow, I am following you as well, but don't see my avatar. But GFC tells me I am? Crazy blogger! xo
ReplyDeleteI love all of them but 2012 pulls at my heart decorating strings.
ReplyDeleteYou are so wise...about the standing in the middle of the room, reflecting and most of all the costume...my hubs bought a prom tux from ebay...not sure where that leaves me???
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Mantels--every one of them! I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteLove looking back over the years and blogging sure helps with that:) Your mantels are so pretty! Praying, thanking, shooing and thinking!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed weekend dear Laura, HUGS!
They're lovely, but I like 2010 best of all.
ReplyDeleteThere will be lots of costumed grown ups in town on Wednesday - it's a big deal here - but I'll pass and just enjoy taking photos.
Love your new mantel. I think that is great advice on how to decorate for the seasons.
ReplyDeleteLOL- Laura- I am back from my blogging break~ Good advice for your daughters! I think that is a great idea about the way you dress your house for the Holidays- I am paring down in the next few months- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI agree with your decor philosophy because I don't want my home to look like I have decorated for a party or to look childish. Just to add beauty of the season and to have it look warm and inviting...
ReplyDeleteYou mantle is gorgeous!
