No I am not the mother of an Olympic gymnast,
or swimmer,
male or female-
but I may as well be.
Since the Olympics began
last Friday
with one of the most interesting,
creative opening ceremonies I have
ever seen,
I have been a blubbering hot mess on the couch.
I cry when they win.
I cry when they lose.
I cry when the athletes are interviewed, and they say gracious things.
I cry during the commercials when they thank their mothers.
I really cry when the camera shows the parents in the stands
holding their breath or hiding their eyes.
And when Missy Franklin , a beautiful 17 year old swimmer from Colorado,
sang the Star Spangled Banner during her gold medal ceremony,
while her parents cried in the nosebleed section of the stands,
I cried even more.
I am exhausted
and exhilarated all at the same time.
Isn’t it wonderful?
I'm with you. That Missy and her parents did me in. Love the Olympics!
ReplyDeleteOh yes - and for me it really doesn't matter where they're from - they're all terrific!
ReplyDeleteI love them too...American flags all over our place and a prayer candle
ReplyDeleteOh I agree. Why can't they reserve a few seats for parents where they don't have to use binnoculars. How cool she knew all the words!
ReplyDeleteMissy Franklin was the one I really had a hard time with. What an amazing job and then singing and her lip quivering. I love every bit of the Olympics.
ReplyDeleteI have often said to my friends that as mom's we have a duty to watch out for every child, not just our own. I think you "get" that thought.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
It is wonderful and yes I am watching every chance I get! I think they are all winners, even when they lose:) Have a blessed day my friend! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful! We love the Olympics and they always put a lump in my throat. Blessings to you- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteYes, it is wonderful. It is so good to feel pride in the USA and these athletes bring out the best of it.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the crying. My biggest cry, when the swimmer from South Africa won against Michael Phelps. I don't remember the specific race it was but when the camera showed his father crying in disbelief that his son won agains his idol I just cried buckets. Ahhh,, I love the Olympics.
