My Small Cutting Garden

One of my favorite pleasures right now

is cutting flowers from my garden.


I have even designated two beds as my ‘cutting garden’.


(Yes… a little Downton Abbey fantasy, I know.)

You must do this.


Find some small corner of your yard that gets full sunlight, prepare the soil, and plant some seeds.

If that isn’t a possibility, then plant seeds in containers.


It is so satisfying and rewarding.

Zinnias will be your best friends and the colors are perfect for summer.


The variety above is salmon colored and is called La Senora.

    Oh, I do love Zinnias and just seeing them in these pics brought a smile to my swollen face. (I had a surgical dental procedure done yesterday). Think I'll go out and get me some Zinnias just as soon as I can. Happy weekend!

    Pretty colors--my inspiration for this morning to get busy and add some much needed pots to brighten up my spaces.     Such a nice thing to have ...fresh flowers for cutting. So often I don't want to cut mine out of the garden. I have started two beds behind our fence so that I can grow flowers for bouquets! When it stops raining I will plants some seeds. Your beds are beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

    Zinnias are great-- Ive had trouble with powdery mildew here, tho. I am keen for a cutting garden, so thanks for the inspiration. I like your blog!

    so pretty! I adore zinnias in an ironstone pitcher, that's on my list, I've grown them from seed before and they are always a winner!

    What beautiful pictures! I have always loved zinnias although I haven't had lots of luck growing them. Sorry I haven't visited in awhile...things have been hectic. But I'd rather be busy than bored:)

    I enjoyed seeing your cutting garden. I am in the process of creating one. Growing zinnia and cosmos in a warming dome, (presently inside right now, cold here.) I went to our local Farmer's Market yesterday and purchased some allium, shamrock and lavender. I enjoy this creating phase. Your garden looks hearty and more advanced than Michigan.
