In my fantasy world in my
‘of a certain age ‘ thinking,
in my next house ,
I want this lampshade.
During my vuelta to Houston and then on to Dallas,
I had a chance to help my youngest daughter
do some primping in her already wonderful house.
That lampshade (from Target) was a result of that.
She had the cream ‘bamboo-ish’ chest in her garage,
the white ceramic bamboo lamp in her bedroom,
and we have all collected a pair of those over the top birds.
I brought this black iron Greek key lamp
from my flea market stash.
I LOVE anything Greek key.
This crackled vase was my Mother’s.
It looks great next to the globe
without the stand -
also from my flea market stash.
We had fun creating a gallery wall in her
kitchen
above some gray industrial shelves,
using plates she bought at Anthropologie
(on sale).
These plates are also going to be in my fantasy house.
This turquoise glass dish is from an estate sale,
and I love putting something out of place
in the kitchen, don’t you?
Truth be told-
there is nothing I love more that loading up
my car with things for my daughters’ houses,
along with my toolbox,
to see if I can be of help.
It is also ‘ refreshing’ when I show them
something I brought
and they say…
‘Ah…no. Thank you though.’
Then I get to bring those cast-offs home
so I can try to slip them in to
offer to another daughter.
See how smart I am?

Just beautiful! I LOVE that shade! I was in Target last week and didn't see anything so pretty. I'll have to look again when I go Saturday. I need a new shade and that one is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLaughing.... thank goodness one womans junk is another womans treasure - and that you have more than one daughter!

How wonderful! Sounds like fun visiting your daughters. You did a great job sprucing up!
ReplyDeleteXO Cindy
All of it looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't help myself...I must see more of the industrial shelf!
In my mind it will be fabulous too!
If your photos show more-- without much editing...you must share!
As for the dining area...I love the white and yellow and the over the top birds!
it all works wonderful together. If I weren't so old, I'd ask to be your adopted daughter! LOL...

I love this post, Laura. I had to read it to David and we both got a chuckle over "daughter" turning down a treasure brought from home. My storage hut out back wouldn't be stuffed as it is had I been that brave to refuse all those "treasures".
ReplyDeleteLove the peacocks... and pass along to the girls that at last I found a hunkered down peacock yesterday at a new antique store in Weslaco. It looks great with the two peacocks I inherited from my mother that once graced my grandmother's mantle!
Great post.

P.S. Can I be an adopted daughter???
I love the Target shade. I bought one, too, but had to return it... was too big for the lamp I was using it with! Was very disappointed! It was a beauty! It looks fabulous in your daughter's home with the beautiful lamp!
ReplyDeleteCute story about decorating and visiting your daughters! :)
Oh, and I'm your newest follower! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderfully beautiful:) Love that lampshade, I have seen it at Target! I know exactly how you feel! I helped my Daughter decorate her house! I loved picking up things for her and helping decorate! Sweet memories! Have a blessed evening, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteFunky shade and sort of 60's I think, great style, Maureen
ReplyDeleteI love the turquoise pieces. And, yes, you are a smart lady for helping out your daughters. Wish I had a daughter to enjoy those things with. My son could care less about interior design:)
ReplyDeleteYou have such fun with your daughters and decorating. I love it!
ReplyDelete...thanks for all the inspiration!
ReplyDeletePriming a daughter's house sounds like it would be fun with you two great decorators! What great looking lamps and those plates, I want them too! That gallery wall looks awesome! Do drop off anything you want when you get to this adopted daughter's house! Now you have two adopted daughters! You always find the best little treasures, truly amazes me!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, dear friend.
Nancy
What I like about your decorating is that it is enjoyed by your daughters as well.
ReplyDeleteLove the white base and yellow shade! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteyou are a very smart woman...and if the daughters don't want it...I'm sure it can find a nice spot at your home...:)
ReplyDeleteLoved what you did! Sounds like you had a great time. I especially like the aqua dish!!!
ReplyDeleteY'all did a great job.
ReplyDeleteshe has a lovely home and your little flea market finds are completely fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLaura... I was so glad to see that last comment... the "no thank-you"... as that is what I often get from my own daughters... seems they haven't fallen in love with the vintage feel of things the way their mother has... of course... what is vintage to us... is antique to them... maybe that's the problem...
ReplyDelete1980's anyone? ;) hugs. Dixie
Katherine's house is so lovely. Love all the spruce ups, especially the white lamp with the gorgeous shade! You two found the perfect spot for it.:)
ReplyDeletePlease come to Tennessee and play in my house. And you would love visiting Tennessee; I promise ;-). I'll make sure to find you some flea markets. :-). Lovely home! XOXO {Preppy 101}
ReplyDeleteI will take ANY of their castoffs!!! I'm only 40 minutes from Dallas. I need to find a pair of those birds. So cool!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely place. I want a pair of those birds too. :)
