I am blessed to have a navel orange tree in our backyard.
I have been eating A LOT of oranges lately.
They are delicious this season.
There is something so simple and wonderful about picking an orange, rinsing it off,
peeling it ,
and eating it right then and there.
Once peeled,
I throw the peel in my simmering potpourri pot I created.
I use the bottom half of my copper double boiler.

My favorite simmering potpourri has apparently been discontinued.
I loved Aromatiques’s muslin sachet bags in
The Smell of Christmas.
I can’t find them anywhere.
So when I found a packet of mulling spices in the produce section of my grocery store, I created my own.
I just added extra whole cloves,
cinnamon sticks,
and orange peel.

Gosh, I loved "The Smell of Christmas" also. I have some oranges that I have almost let "go bad"...your idea of simmering them would be a great way for me to use them. I am going to use your "recipe" to add even more aroma. Thanks for sharing...I saw your post over at "Metamorphasis Monday".
ReplyDeleteI love doing this. Although we don't have an orange tree here in Ontario, I do buy oranges, and then use the peels in simmering potpourri. The smell is just wonderful as it wafts through the house ~ yummmm ;-)

ReplyDeleteI have looked for The Christmas scent for the past two years!! I kept hoping it would pop up at Tuesday Morning, Ross, TJMaxx or even Big Lots if it was discontinued!
I clean with alot of vinegar these days and use orange lemon and lime peels in it to add a yummy fragrance!

I have that same double boiler. I've had mine for at least 20 years and it has had a good workout. Love the simmering pot idea. I often do that, too, but have not used this pot for it. xo Diana
