Maturity Rules: 2012 Goals

Please bear with me as I put my own spin on 2012 goals,

home and otherwise,

which I think are very important.

Everywhere you turn, whether it be in your home,

the doctor’s office, the workplace, your school,

your church, or even your mind,

there are things to ponder, plans to make, dreams to build,

strength to restore, mountains to climb, and goals to set.

Truth be told, the rebel in me (see above photo) starts to sing

”Don’t Fence Me In” right about goal setting time.

But this year I’ve decided that’s a really

old behavior model.

For you see, I really do enjoy getting things done.

Here is my list.

*  Keep things in perspective at home and in the world at large.

Everyone has a story to tell and is doing the best he/she can (as my college roommate used to say).

*Remember that the key goal for our home is that it be a haven.  In order for that to

happen, I must have a haven builder’s heart.

*Remember to use the best manners I can muster, even when the world around me seems intent upon getting

on my last irritable nerve.

* Remember that there is always work to do around the house (often daily work- occasionally project work)

as well as in the yard,

and there are less important things that rob time.

*Remember that rest is a wonderful reward and that I can’t do that if I am out and about

‘running errands’, however important they may seem.

*Remember that- for me- reading blogs is not the same as reading books.

I enjoy reading blogs,

but I need to read books too.

*Remember to narrow my to do list down but broaden my horizons.

And finally…

*Remember that a home is really a living thing.

Wise, wise woman.
This year is one of those special decade birthdays for me, so I'm collecting lots of wise words, bits of advice and things to make me think.

Great, thought-provoking list!

I am with you especially on reading. I still read two books a week no matter what. Reading is one of my true loves. Having manners when lack of civility is now the standard is a test of character.

The people around you are blessed to have someone who's 2012 goals are not self centered. I hope your goals flourish, because if they do the people around you will benefit too.

Love it. Nicely put and you have reminded me that I need to get away from my blog and read a book!! A real one with paper and ink.
