On Top Chef recently, one of the contestants
assigned the dessert category said,
“Oh no, that’s sooooo scientific.”
So THAT’S the problem.
I am a big hot mess baker,
who has good intentions
and high hopes,
with a counterpart that is my kindred spirit.
Meet Counterpart.
Counterpart is a 1989 model oven
that has extreme heat tendencies,
or plays possum.
And yes, I am showing you the inside of my oven.
Since the oven light hasn’t worked since who knows when,
I have to use this.
Yes,
I have to shine a flashlight
into the oven at the
oven thermometer
to see
if this is an extreme heat day
or a possum day.
Today was a good day
for
Counterpart.
We mixed up Pioneer Woman’s chocolate sheet cake,
with all of the licking that involves.

Oh- I LOVE PW woman's sheet cake. And I just adore HER, too.
There is nothing worse than an undependable oven when you are trying to bake! xo Diana

Hmmm, not sure my oven is ready for public viewing. :)
The cake looks delicious!
Oh this was too funny Laura. You know I manage without a dryer at our yellow house and without an oven at the old house so I know where you are coming from.
My oven is fairly new so I haven't had that problem for awhile. But my old oven was a disaster. The cake looks delicious.
Don't all ovens have that fickle nature? I've never had one that really understood 350.
Truly.
I've never made the cake but it does look good!
We have problem with appliance dying so we are pretty good with updates!
XO,
Jane
my Mom's oven is that way too...looks yummy...
Oh you BRAVE dear lady! My oven needs cleaning and I wouldn't show it on here! Yummy dessert, I would like some right now:) Have a blessed day, HUGS!
I can smell this cake, Laura!! Love the flashlight. I keep one on my kitchen countertop because I can barely see the back of my cabinets. We're just telling it all, aren't we, girl friend!?!

Wow, you mean business with your cooking! A flashlight shows definite intent!

My sister has that same oven, circa 1989 too! When we were first married we lived in my grandparent's old house and that oven, dating from the 1950s, was off by 25 degrees, some days high, some days low, so I can kind of relate! That yummy sheet cake, one of my favs, proves that you know how to cook under adversity, now that's my kind of chef!
Kat :)
