This used to be this.
Raise your hands if you ever opened your eyes one day
and asked
“Who does that belong to?”
Now raise your hands if it is 2011 and said object entered your home in 1990?
This is like the Sci Fi network, right?
Side note: What was so wrong with the 90’s?
My main goal was to accomplish the following:
create a soft place for a nap…check
create a cooler (as in temperature) color scheme… check.
I have just been playing with things so far.
I wish I could figure out how to change the stain color of those chairs without
re-upholstering.
Now to the advice:
In order to modernize the lines of the couch,
I had the upholsterer remove the buttons on the back cushions.
I also had him ‘raise’ the cushions about 2 inches higher than the back of the couch.
And now back to the drawing board.
Sherwin Williams’ Reflection is too blue.
Even though I plan to use my very favorite blue and white pieces in here,
I want a softer gray that is just gray.
So far I have looked at Gray Clouds,Stamped Concrete, Silver Mist,
Zircon, Evening Shadow,
and Front Porch,
to name a few.
Next bit of advice.
When looking at color paint strips,
look at the darkest shades on the strip.
That is the real hue of the color you are selecting.
I am off to stare at the paint store.

ReplyDeleteThat last tip on the paint color I never knew! Makes sense though. Your revitalized couch looks amazing! Great work.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about paint chips. Interesting. Well, blue and white for me is always a winning combination. Good luck with the paint choices. Love the couch!

Hi Laura! I have my hand raised because I too have things in our home from 1990. The sofa looks wonderful reupholstered and I love your blue and white pieces.

Beautiful! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you don't go blind staring! It is a monster of a job, isn't it? Picking a paint you will love to live with? I adore your couches now that you have recovered them. The before? Not so much- I had a blue and orange one that is very similar. It is now clothed in white and likes itself much better! Can't wait to see the room painted- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWhat a makeover! I love the new fabric and color scheme you are building is so soft and airy. Good luck with the paint choices
ReplyDeleteA lovely classic scheme now. I dont envy you trying to find the right paint colour.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I know just what you mean about waking up one day and saying something along the lines of "why do I still have this?" You think it's just ONE thing to fix, but everything in your house is connected! There is no such thing as changing just "one" thing.
ReplyDeleteYou have an eye for beauty! Have a blessed day with your painting:) Nothing freshens up a room like a new coat of paint! Have a blessed day, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteOh I am sooo in love with your blue & white. Your room looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how you could stain those chairs without taking the fabric off.
So funny about the sofa, I feel the same way about the wall paper in my master bath. I look at it and go "What in the heck was I thinking?"
Was one of your goals to create a stunning, chic look...'cause you did.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah...I've done that, but unlike MITS...I always wonder what was I smoking!
Deb
I was wondering how this project was going.........looks great! Have you checked out favoritepaintcolors blog? It might help. Gray is difficult!
ReplyDeleteThat advice about the darkest chip on the card is excellent. Earlier this year I painted my living room green. Then I was looking for a shade for my office and wanted green again, but not the exact same color. I found another color I loved, and belatedly discovered that they were on the same paint card--the office being a darker shade than the living room. I guess I'm consistent!
ReplyDeleteI love what you're doing. That sofa looks so comfy. I hope it's as soft as it looks (and I'm sure it is).
Gorgeous!! I'm inspired to get mine re-upholstered. I think it's too much for a novice like me. =D
