This Used to Be This

IMG_6038

This used to be this.

Raise your hands if you ever opened your eyes one day

and asked

“Who does that belong to?”

Now raise your hands if it is 2011 and said object entered your home in 1990?

This is like the Sci Fi network, right?

Side note:  What was so wrong with the 90’s?

I LOVED BEDAZZLED T SHIRTS.

My main goal was to accomplish the following:

create a soft place for a nap…check

create a cooler (as in temperature) color scheme… check.

I have just been playing with things so far.

I wish I could figure out how to change the stain color of those chairs without

re-upholstering.

Now to the advice:

In order to modernize the lines of the couch,

I had the upholsterer remove the buttons on the back cushions.

I also had him ‘raise’ the cushions about 2 inches higher than the back of the couch.

And now back to the drawing board.

Sherwin Williams’ Reflection is too blue.

IMG_5989

Even though I plan to use my very favorite blue and white pieces in here,

I want a softer gray that is just gray.

So far I have looked at Gray Clouds,Stamped Concrete, Silver Mist,

Zircon, Evening Shadow,

and Front Porch,

to name a few.

Next bit of advice.

When looking at color paint strips,

look at the darkest shades on the strip.

That is the real hue of the color you are selecting.

I am off to stare at the paint store.

  3. I didn't know that about paint chips. Interesting. Well, blue and white for me is always a winning combination. Good luck with the paint choices. Love the couch!

  5. I hope you don't go blind staring! It is a monster of a job, isn't it? Picking a paint you will love to live with? I adore your couches now that you have recovered them. The before? Not so much- I had a blue and orange one that is very similar. It is now clothed in white and likes itself much better! Can't wait to see the room painted- xo Diana

  8. Lovely! I know just what you mean about waking up one day and saying something along the lines of "why do I still have this?" You think it's just ONE thing to fix, but everything in your house is connected! There is no such thing as changing just "one" thing.

  10. Oh I am sooo in love with your blue & white. Your room looks wonderful.
Not sure how you could stain those chairs without taking the fabric off.
So funny about the sofa, I feel the same way about the wall paper in my master bath. I look at it and go "What in the heck was I thinking?"

  11. Was one of your goals to create a stunning, chic look...'cause you did.
Oh yeah...I've done that, but unlike MITS...I always wonder what was I smoking!

  13. That advice about the darkest chip on the card is excellent. Earlier this year I painted my living room green. Then I was looking for a shade for my office and wanted green again, but not the exact same color. I found another color I loved, and belatedly discovered that they were on the same paint card--the office being a darker shade than the living room. I guess I'm consistent!

I love what you're doing. That sofa looks so comfy. I hope it's as soft as it looks (and I'm sure it is).
