Outside My Window
my husband has the BBQ pit going for a simple 4th of July meal that he is preparing.

Menu
BBQ chicken and brisket
fresh corn on the cob with butter
frijoles a la charra (pinto beans)
red potato salad (courtesy of HEB- my contribution)
chilled watermelon
iced tea

I Am Thinking… that independence is a treasured quality and that I am
honored and grateful for all that it takes to sustain it
in our country.

From the Kitchen…  I cut up and chilled a pineapple today.  I just ate a chunk while writing this post.
What a simple, delicious pleasure.

I  Am Thankful For…  the independence that my husband has
given me every single day of our married life-
in thought and deed.

Independence in relationships is really
a contradiction in terms-

it is what keeps things tightly bound together.

I am thankful that our youngest daughter is visiting.
As I looked over right now,
she is napping on the couch,
and I reached over to turn off the lamp light in the den.

It is the things unknown that I love in mothering
my 3 adult,
independent daughters:

turning off a lamp,
covering feet with light blanket,
resting a hand on a forehead.

I am creating….  empty (…actually emptier) spaces in my home.

I want independence from things stored.

I am reading….blog posts when living and gardening permit.

So often now, I begin conversations by saying

‘I saw on a blog…’
‘I read on a blog that…’

So I wondered today if my blog posts
create my own blog version of
encouraging
DIY tutorials,
based on my crazy adventures,
that are really a metaphor
for
laughing and not taking things too seriously,
and
above all ,
enjoying simple pleasures that I so love.

I hope so.
I am going… to publish this and then spend
some time on my appearance.

I am wearing… yard clothes… so I have a way to go.

  2. Laura.. your posts are always inspiring to me. Simple and to the point... that's why, even on a busy day like today, I pause and visit my favorite bloggers... everyone else is napping... just here with my computer in my lap... and dropping by for a little inspiration...

    4th of July Blessings. Dixie

  7. I've even been known to say, "A friend of mine...." -- how wonderful to feel such a connection with people I've never met.

  8. What a lovely post! I've missed stopping by as I've been "up to my eyeballs" caring for my Daddy. Life has a way of throwing curve balls sometimes and we're in the middle of dealing with one right now, but it's nice to be "blog browsing" this evening. Yours always brings a smile to my face. Blessings!
