Showdown At the Wazy Wiver

IMG_5533

If you were anywhere near a water park in Texas this weekend,

and you saw a frazzled looking grandmother (me)

taking her lifeguarding duties seriously,

while everyone being guarded ignored her,

you should have stopped and said hi.

Whatever happened to the swimming rules of my youth?

Don’t people wait an hour after eating ( before swimming) so they don’t get cramps and die?

Isn’t the undertow still the scariest deterrent from going out too far?

Aren’t kids taught to swim from the deep end to the shallow and never the reverse (in case you get so exhausted you pass out and die just as you reach the deep end)?

I quit…

And the lazy river…

what a misnomer.

When my youngest grandson wanted to get into the

‘wazy wiver’,

(a winding, concrete river 3 feet deep with a moving current, thank you very much)

I couldn’t allow him to do that alone of course (he can not swim),

and he would not wear his life jacket ,

so I got into the wazy wiver,

WITH ALL OF MY CLOTHES ON,
(Mexican top, capris)

insisting he use the inner tube,

and of course he would not.

As we argued, bounced and wound our way around the course,

I decided it was a draw.

Now that's an image!!
Do you think he'll remember? I think that this story bears repeating (often) as the little swimmer grows up.

Isn't it crazy the things grandmothers will do for these precious children! And isn't it funny how our grands break all the rules? What a wonderful memory!

HaHAHa! Sorry, I promise that I'm laughing with you and not at you. That is one of the most precious grandma tales I've heard to date. I think you deserve a prize or something.

And he is really cute!

Oh Laura, I can just picture you trying to navigate the Wazy Wiver in your capris. It's definitely a workout! The getting out part is a killer. You are a great grand mother though....and he will remember fun times with you.

This is so funny...he's so cute...and it's all so true! I spent yesterday tubing on a river in NC with my grands, coincidentally, and can definitely relate!

What a cutie pie! It really can be a showdown dealing with kids that age. You are a good grandma to compromise. I don't do waterparks or wazy wivers unless I really, really have to. have a terrific Thursday. Tammy

That is too funny! What we'll do as grammas! Even swimming with our clothes on. Those grandkids are always gonna win. I could have sworn I was the only gramma who plays video games like Halo, but sounds like you are well on your way in the years to come. He's a little cutie, by the way.

Ha, I am laughing and relating... it is my focus in life right now not to get into a power struggle with my 3 year old grandson, it is hard because they live with us.
Your little wascal is just adorable
