Tomato pRIDE

IMG_4960

I feel like the guest that pulls out a stack of grandchildren

photos,

or photos of her latest trip-

all while my dear hostess

(You)

grits her teeth.

Please bear with me.

This is a down right miracle.

IMG_4962

I have red, juicy tomatoes that taste as good as they look.

I am so proud and humbled by it all.

I also became entranced with how pretty they look against my

old blue and white dish towel.

This is my favorite blue.

Simple things like this make my heart sing.

And then there’s the basket that I bought

(in a set of 3)

at the flea market for all of my harvesting.

Be still my farmer’s daughter heart.

And so the next step in this process is the perfect menu.

Beans and Cornbread, slathered in butter

Chilled sliced tomatoes , sprinkled with a little salt

and

Iced tea.

How soon can you get here?

  7. Tomatoes! One of my most favorite foods! Beautiful photos. I just put two plants in the ground this past weekend and I am going to start some heirloom seeds this week. They make me happy too!

  10. Oh, I'll take everything except the tomatoes. Can you believe that? I've never eaten tomatoes but I eat salsa. I know, really weird, but I do not like the seeds or the texture. But, I do think your tomato pictures are gorgeous! Have a happy week!

What time do you want us there? I'm on my way. There is absolutely nothing better than a fresh tomato straight out of the garden!!!

  25. Gee whiz...........all I"ve been able to harvest and eat from my TN garden is lettuce. Everything else, including the tomatoes look promising. I'll be there mid October.

  28. I have not had a tomato that tastes like a tomato in years. I am so jealous!
My family always grew them and we salted them and ate them like apples... sigh...

  34. I'm so jealous! We are quite a while from fresh tomatoes around here. The strawberries however are almost ready!

  35. Oh wouldn't a sloppy tomato sandwich loaded with mayo and lots of salt be soooo good? What I wouldn't do for one right now. Cannot wait, but I guess I will. We still have a while before our tomatoes will be ready. Yum is all I can say. To answer your question, hubby uses a tractor. He has two. As big as our gardens are, it would kill him to use a tiller. Guess I can overnight you some squash to fry, if you'd like :)

  36. I'm sure I'm too late now! I hope you ate enough for me too.

  39. Your babies are beautiful. What time is dinner? I have only one tomato bush this year since I was late getting started. I bought one of those grape tomato plants. I can't wait until it starts producing because there is NOTHING like fresh, vine ripened tomatoes.

    Teresa
