I used up all of my markers for asking
my adult daughters design questions about my house
long ago.
I can’t understand why they wouldn’t want to
discuss changes I want to make in the study,
a gazillion times,
for over a year?
I woke up one day,
looked around
and thought,
‘I can do better than this.’
The problem is the study contains some of my favorite things.
chinoiserie prints and white wicker
lamps
Indonesian silver plate
books and mirrors
blue and white transferware
saltillo tile
framed prints
crown moulding, plantation shutters, and white metal
But it also has this nap haven of a couch
in a soft,soft
very dated
cabbage rose chintz.
And so I have made this more complicated than it is.
The changes I am thinking about are:
gray walls with white moulding
a silver gray velveteen couch
silver leafed mirror
mercury glass lamps
a small crystal chandelier
and a lighter,larger rug
And then I feel overwhelmed…
and I try to call one of my daughters…
to talk about the study…

Where would we be without the adivce of our daughters! :-) I am always asking their opinions! I love your white metal and I'm going to have to find a copy of the At HOme in the Garden book!
Have a great week!
Your ideas sound wonderful! I love your pretty blues and whites. Now get busy! We want to see.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
You have such exquisite taste that I know this make over will be fabulous. Can't wait to see it. ~ Sarah
I was thinking...what could you possibly do to make this room any lovelier? Then you said gray paint and I think that is perfect!! I can't wait to see!
XO,
Jane
Sounds lovely. The gray, silver, and blue will blend nicely.
I think the room is lovely as is and I love the cabbage rose chintz! I know, you've probably lived with it for so long now ... it's time for a change! I think you're on the right track and maybe this is one you can go at without your daughters advice! Maybe???
You are making me laugh. I feel your pain. I just did a post on changes my daughter made to my living room (would like to change the furniture upholstery, too, but that's not going to happen any time soon). Fortunately, she LOVES to decorate, so I play with my grandies (her kids) and she decorates! I love, love, love your ideas for the room. These new neutral colors are just fabulous. Linda
I love your design plan. Those are the colors and textures I'm thinking of doing our master bedroom in. They just seem very restful. I think the things you love about this room will look beautiful with the gray walls and white woodwork. Kat
Beautiful as it is:) I love the lamps, the wall in the hall and your pretty blue pillows! Why mess with perfect? :) Have a blessed day dear Laura! HUGS!
I love the look you have now, but your new ideas sound fabulous. How long would a project like this take?? Will I see you at all within the next three months??
Huggers...

Thanks for sharing pretty design.
Shall I send you the gazillion paint chips I have for the color gray? Will that help make up your mind. I can't believe that someone who can haul gravel around in the Texas heat would find a little ol' room change daunting. In the words of Nike...just do it!
My daughter has been rolling her eyes at me a lot these past few months over my paint chips! She keeps asking me what the hold up is.

P.S. D.A.D.D.y needs to give you a hug and a kiss to get your motor running!
As Debbie says just do it. Changing the sofa and rug would be a fabulous start. Then slowly do the rest. ♥O
i wish we were friends and lived close to each other...there's nothing i love better than talking about design. you could call me anytime. :)
Laura, Start by choosing a sofa since it will be the most expensive item. Then work your plan around the sofa. I know it will be wonderful.
Hugs,
Sherry
okay, i was with you til you got to the couch and...as i think you know...it has to go! i have a few pieces in my house with the same tired issue...i always wonder: where does old bad furniture go to die?!
feel free to call me anytime...i always have an opinion and am likely to give it to you whether you want it or not!
thanks for stopping by my blog, i always appreciate it! i'm going to add you to my blog roll so i'll be better about checking in with your blog! :)
This room decor looks lovely but the changes make it sound elegantly updated-can't wait to see the changes! Found you on a blog hop and now I'm a follower-stop by for a visit!-Claire
Oh-That is a lotta change, girl! I know..I know...I agonize over doing something forever..and then finally do it and think -What was I waiting for...It will be wonderful to see what you do! You go, girl! Hugs- Diana
Love your ideas. I'm a blue lover too. I too look for ways to update my blues. I think your silver/gray changes are right on target.

The room is lovely as is. I think the changes sound beautiful as well. How's that for advice? As you know I have been struggling with decor decisions too. Why is it so hard? Just go with your heart.
Sometimes I think about making changes for YEARS. I'll bring home fabric samples, and by the time that I choose one of them and go to the store to buy it, it was discontinued months prior! I've decided to relax with that side of myself...it's one of the reasons that I like to help friends decorate. I can make decisions for them in a New York minute. So....I've come to the conclusion that when I finally make a decision, that's the time to redo...and not to worry about it until that time. I think that it's that same gene that makes us like planning the party more that going to the party....you know...the hunt is 90% of the fun. Thanks for stopping by my post. Please, come visit any time. Cherry Kay
