Daybook January 1, 2011 Is It Time?

Outside My Window… my blooming bougainvillea

said

“Happy New Year Laura.

You may want to direct some of your

Miss Priss alertness from your 2011 resolve at us.”

And so I did.

IMG_3391

Things are blooming, and I’m not quite sure why.

That sums up my gardening knowledge-

which is-

“Why is it doing that?”

IMG_3393

I have great plans for my garden this spring.

I want a bed of yellow roses,

foundation plants along the little house and the side beds,

little white lights strung in a few more places,

and a spring planting of tomatoes and zinnias.

I Am Thinking… that I would like to re-paint several rooms in my house.

IMG_3387

It has been Banana Cream

for quite a while now.

IMG_3357

Is it time?

I love how it softens things

and makes my

battle worn ‘antiques’ look

like they are in the game.

IMG_3366

I had a small nervous breakdown selecting the color

and asked strangers and friends alike

what their favorite buttery yellow was.

It is my badge of sanity,

and it looks wonderful with saltillo.

And then there are the Spode plates.

Is it time?

Here is my reasoning:

I am a grandmother,

and I want

any and all grandmothers’ things,

(including your grandmother’s)

wherever they may be

(side of the road, Warrenton, the flea market)

but…

before I hit a LARGE birthday this year,

I want my house to make

me

say,

that looks soooo fine.’

I don’t think my Spode plates are doing that.

Maybe I need to try this.

From the Kitchen…  my brother and father stopped by,

so I went to Taqueria Zarape and got

tacos reynosa, a botana, charro beans, and giant baked potatoes.

Tacos Reynosa are small tacos in soft corn tortillas with

fajitas, onion, and cilantro.

They both said,

Sure was good Sis.”

I  Am Thankful For…  this moment.

The couch is soft, my laptop is in my lap,

and I am writing a letter to you

while watching NHL hockey’s Winter Classic.

I am now enamored of

NHL hockey after watching

the Penguins on HBO.

It’s a new world here at White Spray Paint.

And yes…I am wearing one of my Ross Dress for Less caftans.

  3. Oh No! The Bougainvillea is talking to you again? You DID remember to take your meds today, didn't you? Are you hearing any other voices? Just asking cuz you KNOW I care about you! lol

What a lovely post..I know I am going through some of those same mini-traumas over what to keep and what to store and what means what. It's a mad circle, really, isn't it? I will wish you luck with your decisions.

Hugs and a Very Happy New Year, sweet Laura~ Diana

  4. At this time of year I start to think about pitching an awful lot of what's hanging on the walls and lurking in the cupboards - in fact, the trunk of my car is, at this late hour, full of bags for a delivery to St Vincent de Paul on Monday.
I love yellow walls. There are four shades of yellow in the downstairs rooms here - and some don't look yellow at all except in particular light. Love yellow!

  5. I'm sort of feeling the painting itch, but not sure I'll scratch it. I'm afraid if I start changing things I won't stop.

  6. How wonderful to have flowers blooming now Laura!
Seeing your photos makes me feel like spring is right around the corner:)

I too have been feeling inspired by rooms of white, and neutral colors with that zen feeling to them also... but I love color too! So what's a girl to do?! Maybe I'll try starting with one room and see what happens from there...

Warm wishes for the New Year!!
    Hugs, Sherri:)

  7. What gorgeous photographs of beautiful images. When I lived in Asia I had bougainvillea on my terrace. You never see them here in New England. They are such gorgeous flowers. Sounds like you are enjoying the comforts of home.

  8. Oh my... paint colors.... can bring back bad, bad memories... lol! One would think it would be rather simple, but after having almost six color streaks on my bathroom walls, I was near the point of a nervous breakdown. Yes, I know... it's only paint, but it's a big choice. You have my complete sympathy and support. ;c)

  11. Hi Laura! Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting -- it truly makes my day to see not only my regular friends but new friends I haven't yet met.

You have a lovely blog -- so different from what I usually read, but a welcome "different."

Hope you are having a great day!

  12. Sounds like you have New Years plans and new "normal" plans well in hand. The flowers are gorgeous. I look out on typical Ohio winter mud. The snow has all melted due to our crazy weather, 69 on New Years eve, now back down to mid 30's with snow showers by the end of the week. We never know what will come next, much like life. Change, planned change, can be so refreshing. However if you really love your paint color, keep it. You can change all the accessories so easily, but a wall color you regret is not so easy. Being a decorative painter my home has gone through countless color changes. I have found, finally, that neutral walls give the option of any look I may choose on a whim.
I can't wait to see what you are up to in this new year full of promise, Pam

  13. Laura, I am just happy when I see anything in my yard blooming. I am not very good at growing things; anything that grows and blooms is accidental. :) Your blooming plants are gorgeous...and I think...it is a very good sign.:)
I can never pick paint colors. I love too many colors and my choices change from day-to-day. :(
    Wishing you a lovely Sunday!

  15. Great post - but if you paint your living room than I'll paint mine too. It's yellow - Laura Ashley cowslip, but I'm ready for something else too. Let's make a pact, okay? LOL
