Vintage Christmas Ornaments

IMG_2694
As I wrote the title of this post,
Vintage Christmas Ornaments,
it occurred to me that
all
Christmas decorations are vintage,
even if only in the eye of the beholder.
They have stood the test of time,
mean something special to the owner,
and provide countless days
of family tradition
and beauty.
These ornaments were also part of my daughter’s inventory
at market days.
I hid them under the table immediately.

I don’t know who made these ornaments,
but I have a picture in my mind
of what would make it special for me.
In my mind,
it would be my mother and my aunts sitting around a kitchen table,
laughing and talking while they worked.
I would be there too,
helping, watching, listening,
and learning.

There are vintage experiences and memories too,
aren’t there?

  5. Very pretty. I have a few that my husbands Aunt made. He said they all sat around the table making them one day. I think of that when I hang them on the tree each year. Nice photos too!

  8. Beautiful collection of vintage ornaments! My cousin and I made similar ornaments in the 70's and I still have them. Maybe I'll do a small vintage tree. Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. Those are so pretty! I made some many years ago, but not as pretty as those. Still have a few of them left, but did not put them on the tree this year.

  10. Oh, Laura, what gorgeous ornaments and pictures. Seeing them brought back so many memories of when my Grandmother use to sit and make these. I do not know what happened to them, but oh, how I wish I had them now.

    What a beautiful entry! Blessings!

  12. Beautiful baubles. They remind me of some of the ones my twin sister and I made in 1976. All hand-pinned with sequins and beads. Those particular ones have faded with time, but yours brought back some sweet memories.

  13. I remember the year that my grandmother (she died when I was 11) and my mother made ornaments similar to these. They used styrofoam balls and stuck velvet ribbons and sequins in with straight pins. I wonder if they are still tucked away in my parent's ornament stash. We didn't get to the Christmas things when I went through my mom's stuff. I told dad it could wait...there may be many surprises!

  20. Ooooh Laura, pray tell...do you hide a key under the mat or leave it in the birdhouse? Please e-mail me and let me know, cause I am planning a trip to Texas to get my hands, on the silver in your last post, and while I'm at it, I think I'll snag these gorgeous ornaments!
I want to wish you 'merry' friend.
