Christmas Comfort and a Note to Daughters

 pink christmas 002

It dawned on me, as I began writing this post, that you have seen my Christmas things before.

That includes

those of you who read my blog

as family members,

as long time friends,

as neighbors,

as teachers and colleagues,

and of course,

as those of you who blog.

May I say-

that gives me great

Comfort.

Amazing comfort.

My ‘study’, an English teacher name I christened the front room of our house,

is where everything old and pink goes at Christmas.

The study is also the room where-

at my

Annual Ladies’ Teacher Christmas Party

(that I hosted for years)

the crazy folks hid out.

Those are my people.

IMGP0827

The day of the party they could get to school on time,

olive spread or pineapple cheese ball in tow,

red Christmas sweater jingling as they walked down the hall,

manage bus duty,

teach like their hair was on fire,

walk across the street to my house,

and mix margaritas at my kitchen island,

laughing all along the way.

That gives me poignant

Comfort.

Note to Daughters:

And so, dear daughters, if you are reading this-

there is a reason why I opened our home every year at Christmas time.

I have had every kind of Christmas party you can have.

I want that for you.

What is that?

It is that opportunity to say to people you love,

“you are my friend,

and I love you, and

I may not always show it perfectly, but let me

show you that I feel that way.”

This may or may not be the year,

but you must do this.

I want you to have

crazy people

in YOUR study too.

Love, Mom

We are blessed. You are blessed. Today you blessed me.

    I suppose you always will.

  10. It looks beautiful Laura. How precious your dreams are for your daughters. I am sure they will have those same wishes for their children also. It's a shame we so often put off opening our homes because things aren't just right...we miss out on alot of craziness that way and heaven knows we could all use some more crazy times. Merry Christmas, Patty

  13. Laura, what an enjoyable post. It is sometimes the crazy people who help makes our memories so precious. Your decorations are beautiful and inspiring. If you would like to share them at another party, I am having the Boardwalk Bragfest today, and I know the others would also love to see your home. You have done such a meticulous job. Well done!

  15. L.B.,
From one inmate to another...don't ever stop teaching. There's a lot of chapters still to cover in the Book Of Love.
I bet if I looked up "Proper, Well-behaved Party Manners"...yours would be under antonyms. Why else would anyone be "Dashing 'cross the street...laughing all the way"?

    P.S. BTW...define crazy.

  16. Bring on the crazy people - the ones I love - the ones who make me weep with laughter - the ones who've really lived and taken risks and lost something and know what it is to work really hard to make their dreams reality.

  17. Oh I love it! Not a better lesson to teach your daughters! There's an old saying..the men in your life can come and go...but a woman's deep friendship lasts forever~ Ain't it the truth though...ain't it the truth.

I love entertaining friends! Hugs- Diana

  28. What a nice tribute to the holidays and acceptance of even "crazy" people :). Your pink Christmas room is lovely. My Fav-Or-Ite is the white tray with the pink bulbs, the blue jars accent them per-fect-ly! I stopped in to check on your photos - Hugs, Kim
