Better Christmas Shopper Than Seller

IMG_2674

I have proclaimed before, that in the world of collecting,

enjoying,

and using things I find at flea markets and estate sales to add to my home and my life,

I am a better shopper than seller.

In the circuit of blogs I seem to frequent,

I may as well admit I don’t enjoy

wrapping gifts.

Oh.

I admitted that too…

At a recent market days, where my daughter Lauren and I were set up as vendors,

I certainly did more shopping than selling.

And, truth be told,

I never left our booth.

I just kept finding things that were hers and setting

them under the table,

to tally up later.

Since she had half a table full of silverplate,

including chafing dishes, a sugar and creamer, a gravy boat, and various Revere bowls,

I was doomed.

So throughout the day, as she sold and visited with customers,

I was transfixed by what she was selling.

And so I shopped.

My words , periodically used with our daughters on shopping trips,

“Can that be one of your Christmas gifts?”,

came back to haunt me.

So in settling up at the end of the day,

when I realized all I had done was shop,

I paid a partial bill,

and I now know what one of my Christmas gifts is.

  1. You are too cute but I get it as I am the same. I am selling two chandeliers at a little shop and while there bought an oil painting!

  3. Me too. I have been thinking of starting an etsy shop and everything I buy, I want to keep.

I also intensely dislike wrapping gifts.

  4. Oh, I know what you mean! One of the markets where I sell my art has the most amazing booths! I spend more than I sell! Your silver is beautiful - I have a soft spot for silver, too.

  5. I think I would do the same as you. I can't pass by a piece of silver.

  6. I just have one little question. If your daughters are anything like Jenn...how many pieces had you already bought once before as "one of the Christmas gifts"?!?! My daughter is notorious for carting things home from the Casita de Trash!
Shopping so outranks selling...just ask Cat Daddy!

  7. You got great pieces however you "found" them.

  8. Gosh, Laura! Any way you and Lauren can set up a booth on our little lane? Lauren has all those beautiful things?? I'm looking for silver trays.
    This was a great post.

  9. Exactly why I don't go to places like that...lol! I've spent too much time downsizing and now I'm almost phobic about going places where I'll be tempted.

I used to like going all out with wrapping gifts but now gift bags are my best friends.

  12. Laura- That is so funny! My girlfriend and I used to share a table at craft fairs and I always liked her stuff better than my own..and ended up spending more than I made...lol What fun...so are we to assume that the last picture is part of your Christmas present (get it-part of ..cuz you only showed PART of the piece? never mind). Lovely fun post! xxoo Diana

  13. Laura love your blog....I am in the same frame of mind. Seems here lately I notice the vintage stuff and wonder whose it was and the time and effort that went into it. I too have been collecting silver anything. Love your vintage ornaments. They are just beautiful.
