Que le vaya bien…

IMG_2207 (Dearest Aunt Mary, Aunt Jody, and Cousin Susan- this one is for you.)

***

At 5:00 pm today, my family met at my house to travel here to celebrate my father’s birthday.

As I snapped photos, I initially wanted to capture the fact that we all took our own vehicles,

even though the restaurant is only a 5 minute drive from my house.

All of the trucks in the top photo are ours .

That goes to that ‘you may need to make a get away’ family philosophy.

We do not do well feeling trapped or stranded.

But then I caught this…

My nephew, Jim Mills III (Trey), hugging my father,  Jim Mills.

So because I am now crying as I am writing this, I decided

to share what we ate and the gifts we gave:

Papa (my father): chicken fried steak

Trey(my nephew): chicken fried steak

Bubba (my brother): deluxe Mexican plate

Lauren (our daughter who lives here): fajita nachos

John (my husband): regular Mexican plate

Me: fajita tacos

I gave my father two new crime novels and a Miranda Lambert cd.

I thought he needed

to broaden his music horizons.

He said ,”She (Miranda Lambert) looks like Heather (our oldest daughter).”

My brother gave him a fryer for his hunting camp.

Que le vaya bien.

(a special farewell; I hope things go well for you)

Awww....love those photos. Happy Birthday to your dad.

Oh, Laura, what I wouldn't do for some really good Mexican food. You wouldn't believe what passes for spicy here in Oregon. I can't find a decent chili relleno and there you go, making me drool over what you all ate for dinner. Fajita tacos - girl, send me some!!

Laura-I don't know what is wrong with me because I thought this was one of the funniest posts I had ever read. I was laughing out loud. MyHero did NOT see what was so funny. He needs a humor bone implant-that one. Anyway, I think one of the reasons that I think it is so funny is because ALL of us always take OUR OWN cars when we go someplace. The only exception is that the kids get to ride with whoever they want to (providing the ride giver is receptive to the idea). Going for ice cream? 4 or 5 cars! Same for pizza. I love the picture of your Jim Mills III hugging his Grandad. That is special for sure. I've been gone so I may have missed something. Is someone leaving? Your Dad? hugs-Diana

What a beautiful photo that was of grandfather and grandson.
Chicken fried steak? I'm trying to imagine what it could be. Chicken fried like steak? Steak fried in chicken fat? Please clarify!!! :)

In Texas there are four basic food groups...BBQ, Wolf Brand Chili, Tex Mex and Chicken Fried Steak. Good to see y'all eating so healthy from two of them!
Happy birthday to your papa. I miss mine and photos of him with the melon heads are some of my favorites.

Aw, so sweet. I always like to have my own "get away car"!

Who eats Chicken Fried Steak at a Mexican restaurant?

It makes me laugh that you all took your own vehicles for a quick get away. I am always the one who is gathering everyone together to car pool. In fact, for 12 years of our married life, my husband and I shared a car. And, we both worked.

Your Dad looks like a sweetheart. How neat that you wrote such detail about such a special day... days go so fast. Too fast sometimes. You are a blessed woman to have the ability to share in such memory-making days with your loved ones! Thank you for sharing it with the rest of the world. :)
