This fall tablescape was a pleasure to create because of two things:
the use of a new color
and
a Birthday Club celebration for some dear friends, which was held at my house.
I wanted to use purple, and I wanted to
fill the table-
I used everything I could find.
I LOVE doing that.
More is more.
It may seem like too much, but that is the way I like it.
I used my Royal Stafford bird dishes and my Nyssa garage sale soup tureens.
Even though they are not my favorite (as my grandson says), I am so glad I kept my 12
mercurochrome colored goblets.
I have 12- and for several years I have tried to sell them at a local antique mall.
They just wouldn’t leave (sell), because alone they are pretty startling, but mixed in with everything on the table, they become wonderful.
I love THAT too.
My Reed and Barton Francis 1st still makes my heart flutter – and it has since I chose it many, many years ago.
I only had one place setting for years.
I didn’t tend to it, I didn’t make it a priority, and rightly so I guess.
And then one day I woke up, years had gone by, and I thought,
‘I better get this show on the road.’
And so I turned to Ebay.
I am just so grateful today-
which is not to say that perfection lives in my house,
because it does not.
But the irregular does-
*my purple tablecloth from DD’s Discount- which is a retail phenomenon in and of itself.
That is where things from Ross are sent out to pasture.
Can you imagine?
*my ceramic pumpkins from Walgreen’s- I love multi-tasking shopping, don’t you?
You can even buy Blue Bell there.
*my copper colored, mercury glass candlesticks (from a garage sale), that I found stuck and forgotten in a cabinet in the little house
*my goblets that wouldn’t leave
and
a simple life today.

I am linking to these wonderful parties.

Laura I love everything! So so beautiful!
Funny thing...the "monkey blood" colored goblets are the first thing that caught my eye! That is a table fit for a banquet...and I don't mean the TV dinner kind!
I love it when you "play dress up"!
Debbie
Laura, truly you always set such lovely tables, and I completely agree that more is more when it comes to fall. I also think that at Christmas!
That purple cloth is perfect as a backdrop, and that is amazing that DD Discounts is the drop off point for Ross. I dare say that cloth is wonderful, and if I had seen it at Ross, I would have nabbed it there!
I love your Francis I which is my MIL's and SIL's pattern. It really is lovely. And I love your bird plates. I saw those on Susan's blog and just had a fit over them. Your whole table is perfect. I also think the goblets are great with that fall look, so you couldn't go wrong there. I can't believe someone didn't snatch them up.
This is a great idea to have a birthday club. I have friends with whom I normally celebrate, but the idea of a club is a great idea.
I'm having server issues, so I guess I had best post and run!
Happy Tablescape Thursday...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Very beautiful! I always enjoy seeing how other people do things like this. For myself, I keep things practical and simple which has benefit but isn't nearly as beautiful! lol
Really beautiful, Laura. I think I'll take a second look at what is not selling at my booth. It could be because it doesn't want to "leave"... and shouldn't. Hmmmm....

Beautiful. I love things that hang on like your goblets. In the end you end up loving their persistence and back story. I saw those bird plates on another blog earlier today...I just love them.
Laura your tablescape is beautiful. I love the bird dishes and those goblets were meant to stay with you where they would be loved and used in such a lovely setting! It's not too much, it's perfectly perfect!
Kat :)
Laura, gorgeous table, I love the purple in it and there are those dishes again. If I see them again at Marshalls I am buying some!!
Yours one of my favs this week!
Linda
Laura your table looks as if it stepped right out of a decor magazine ... it's FABULOUS. Gorgeous centerpiece, and I love those goblets. Of course, I have not seen them in person! But they sure look wonderful in the pictures.
What a great and unexpected pairing of the main colors -- fantastic. What a great eye you have!

Your table almost looks like a Renaissance painting! Aren't you glad the goblets didn't sell -- they are perfect.
Wow, wouldn't I love to dine at your table! Simply stunning! Your guests must feel like Royalty!!!
Oooh, pretty! The purple works so well with the pumpkin colors! And the glassware is perfect with all the rich colors surrounding it! Love "not my favorite" -- such a polite way to express one's feelings!
So pretty! I love deep purple mixed in with the usual Fall colors You did good! :D
Laura, so elegant! Love it!
What a great table you set. I bet you had some lovely compliments. So pretty!!
Your goblets that would not leave were meant to stay! I try for less but do better with more every time. ♥O
beautiful, you set a lovely table for your party. Well done!
Gorgeous table, Laura! I'm so glad you kept your glasses. They are really beautiful.
What a beautiful table! Your goblets are fantastic and I'm lovin' those copper candlesticks:@)
Be still my heart! Those dishes are gorgeous! Great post with a meaningful ending.
It is a beautiful table! My 2 favorite things are garage sale finds? The candlesticks and the soup tureens. Garage sales around here tend to be baby clothes...tons of them. Ick.
Oh Happy Day....I love that song...I love the goblets...what a great table...
It is just a gorgeous setting. I think more is more too! Those are very unusual glasses...I don't think I have ever seen any quite like that...I suppose they are a rarity? Beautiful blogging- Diana
I love your table how special your guests must have felt
Of course, we are in complete agreement....more is always better! I need to think about flirting with purple, even if I don't ever fully embrace it. I'm currently scouting amethyst goblets....seems that would be a good place to start. Round tables...think about the flip top table tops or the 'break-down' 60" round tables from Sam's. Combine those with good tablecloths, and you're in business. For the flip tops, contact 'By Invitation Only' 405-748-4949 or email her at byinvitationonly@cox.net. Her name is Sandy, and she's such a nice person. Thanks for stopping by my post. Come visit again soon! Cherry Kay
Gorgeous table setting dear Laura! I truly love all of the color! The goblets are keepers for sure! I LOVE them! Enjoy your evening in your lovely home! HUGS!
Such a warm and cozy table setting. I love the addition of the rich purple.
Beautiful, love all the more is more!! I have one of those same dinner plates hanging on my guest room wall. Great minds......
Laura, I am so glad you stopped by. Otherwise I might not have found your blog. It beautiful. Your tablescape is so warm. Just glowing. I am sooo glad you goblets didn't sell, they absolutely make the table. You are quite the shopper. Seems you and I haunt similar places. Wish I had a DD's.
Thank so much for dropping by. I am your follower. Hope we have many mutual visits. Ginger
Laura I have just one word...gorgeous!
I love the goblets for the Autumn table.
Bet your friends were thrilled with the setting!
hugs to you...
You table looks great, so many pretty things. And I love the goblets!
Hi Laura,
This is just spectacular! I love everything about your festive fall table -- colors, shapes, textures. And the silver! Oh my ... I first encountered Francis I at an estate sale a couple of years ago. It was a HUGE set, with every imaginable size, function ... a vast quantity, in like-new condition. The price reflected the quality, so I walked away. But I've fantasized about it ever since. Good for you for going for it via eBay and fulfilling the dream that began when you first selected the pattern!
The stemware is wonderful -- not sure why it didn't sell, but so glad you could share it with us this week!
With warmest regards,
Bill
HI Laura...
Ohhh my...your autumn table is sooo rich and lush! I just adore the colors that you chose...the deep, rich purple paired with the earthy orange and bronze...simply glorious! I think your centerpiece is awesome! I'm a "more is better" kind of gal as well! Hehe! I especially like those beautiful bronze candleholders...they really do look stunning with the purple tablecloth! And...I love, love, LOVE your dishes! I have the same dishes...they're my latest favorites! In fact, I did a tablescape using them last week. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful table with us...I love it!
Warmest autumn wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

Hi Laura! I knew you would have a lovely fall tablescape and I was not disappointed! I am sure that your guests were amazed! I love the colors...such a rich tapestry! Hi Laura, How beautiful. I agree that more is more in my house, too. Hey, I wouldn't ever get rid of those goblets if I was you. I love them! Fall colors are just so pretty, aren't they?
I'm trying my best to see all the tablescapes and nearly missed this. It's just plain beautiful to me and a favorite this week. I saw those plates on Susan's and fell in love with them. They're beautiful, and I particularly love them with your stuff.
Love the stemware. I have some colored pieces (tons) from back when I got married. I'm so glad that I kept them now.
This is really very beautiful!
Very pretty.... come show off your table at our Monday "Show Off Your Cottage Monday"! ;)

Nicely done, Laura! Love the purple, too. I used purple in last week's tablescape. It's fun to step out of the "red, yellow, orange, brown" box sometimes, isn't it?
