Chinet Crowd

IMG_0033

On a recent trip to  Canton, my youngest daughter and I stopped at Laurie Anna’s.

What a treat for the eye.

She has AMAZING things.

I bought several things to use for my tablescape at Thanksgiving .

Thanksgiving

This was my table last year.

Remember my mantra?

More is more.

This year I bought these at Laurie Anna’s.

IMG_0036

These are tiny burlap bags that I plan to use for the silverware.

IMG_0037

I am doing this for

one simple reason.

To Get My Father’s Reaction.

I want to hear him say,

“What’s that?”

“What’s that for?”

I also bought a 10 yard roll of burlap runner.

IMG_0035

It is soft and has a nice bound edge.

He will probably say-

“That looks like the sacks my seed is in.”

IMG_0038

And lastly, here is the hand towel I will NOT be using to dry dishes.

True confession?

The men in my family are the

super-sized

oval

Chinet

paper plate crowd,

but every year I try.

  1. I got so excited when I saw this title. I thought...whoa Nelly...chinet is something I know a little about. I have a whole matching set of a gazillion as a matter of fact...the big ol' platter size!
BUT...then you go and show me your Thanksgiving past photo and I'm back to feeling like a peasant in the presence of the queen! L.A. ain't got a thing on you...just more...if that's possible!

  7. We use the big rectangle ones with dividers! There are lots of us, I usually buy 80 of them:) Nobody has enough china to feed that bunch of hungry Howells!

Love all of the burlap and can't wait to hear your Dad's comments!

    Have a blessed day! HUGS!

  8. You scored some great treasures! I love how you are waiting for your father's reaction. I put a burlap tablecloth on and my daughter asked why I had a potato sack on the table! Some people just don't know what's in style!

  10. Men... so barbaric. LOL

My dad would have said the same thing about the little burlap bags. He had a feed and seed corn business years ago so he can relate.

    I think they're cute!

  11. Looking at all your photos the phrase that came to my mind is Elegant Simplicity. That's so you. Love every detail and yes, I've got a super sized Chinet kinda guy that grits his teeth over cloth napkins....

  12. I am partial to those little burlap bags holding the silverware. I just love them!

  13. Your post made me laugh! I get the same kind of questions when I'm trying to be fancy. But, hey holidays are only once a year. They can eat the leftovers on their paper plates!

  14. HA! Darlin' I can hear your dad now and I don't even know him. Remember, I live in a house of 4 men! They humor by eating on real plates and using cloth napkins, but I also hear "what's that...... what's it for?" It just makes the dinner that much better! Did I just say dinner? We always had Supper when I was growing up!

  16. My family always makes fun of me because I never use paper plates. Otherwise, why would I need a dishwasher? Love those little burlap bags--they are really cute! Looks like that was a wonderful shop...dangerous but wonderful! Hugs- Diana

  17. Laura,
I love everything you bought! Your table will be beautiful this year!
PS I so know what you mean about the men in your life. I think I could put my crowd's food in a bowl next to the doggie dish and as long as it had meat and potatoes in it they'd be good to go.:)

  18. OMG, do I want all that burlap!! I'm going on google next. Can't wait to see your table this year.

  28. I have the same large silver urn that you show in the center of the table. Your table looks fabulous. I love the little burlap sacks and the runner. I think it is wonderful how you do not worry that they complain, I hear so many women who change their way of doing things because of complaints. Let them complain, they are noticing!

I am following you back. It will be fun getting to know you!

  29. I love your table from last year.. All the glimmer in those candlesticks is simply divine!! I think the burlap is wonderful. Wow, if you had stamps you could stamp an initial on those bags.. my mind is going into overdrive!! Great finds. Thanks for dropping in!

  32. Laura, What a great idea for the little burlap bags. I have never seen burlap runner sold like this...now I am on a search. I Love last years table setting with the beautiful china and mercury glass candlesticks. It will be hard to top this one.

  33. Love all the colors of Fall. Great basket!

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL! I can't wait to read your post-Thanksgiving comments relating your father's reaction to the burlap bags for silverware! That runner is very neat -- what a good idea! It's such a pain to sew burlap that having finished edges is A Good Thing. Thanks for your visit to my table this week!

  35. True, most of
    the guys don't
    "get" the burlap
    and the pretty
    tablescapes, but
    luckily your blog
    sisters DO : )!!
    I'd be right there
    with you buying that
    lovely stuff!!
    Love your Spode, too!

  36. I applaud your tenacity in trying to get the men folk in your family to embrace the genteel side of life! I worked and worked at it for many years and even though my Dad still may ask, "What's that for?", he does have an appreciation for it all. He actually EXPECTS fresh flowers on the table and cloth napkins. He even may comment when he recognizes a piece that I've used before. So hang in there, sister! There IS hope! :-) Have a good weekend!

  37. You have me laughing and I can SO relate! I just don't care any more. I enjoy it so if they can't appreciate it, it doesn't matter. Love all your treasures and think the burlap is a wonderful touch for a table.

  38. Your Thanksgiving table is BEAUTIFUL! Love the burlap. I cant imagine how FAB your table will be this year! Cant wait! So glad I stumbled onto your blog!!!

  39. How funny, but how right you are about men. Half the fun of doing unique things at the dinner table is in baffling the men!

  40. Oh, I can identify...my hubs loves those big sturdy paper plates too! But beautiful dishes just can't be beat. Your table is going to be beautiful...and I would expect no less.
