Small Size, Big Heart

IMG_1501

A recent flea market addition to my back yard is giving me such daily, knock your socks off joy, I can’t hardly stand it.

IMG_1498

It is only about 3 feet high, but it has the heart of Big Daddy, my other fountain.

When I spotted it at the flea market, I knew I had the perfect spot for it.

In fact, if I could fill my entire back yard with the sound of running/moving water (especially when it is 102 degrees, like it is today) I would.

Note: To anyone building or remodeling a home, learn from my mistake.

Beware of where the air conditioning service man wants to place the compressor. If at all possible, you do NOT want it near your patio area- or anywhere you like to sit and relax.

If you have any Princess and the Pea tendencies, as I do, the noise it creates may make you crazy.

Been there and done that.

  2. I love that you call your other fountain "Big Daddy"...
Your new fountain may not be big in size, but it has a big impact.
Enjoy it! Oh, and I hope it helps with the noisy air conditioner...

    Warm wishes,
    Susie

  5. love the fountain....being in the a/c business we have had to try to convince the homeowners where the best spot for their condenser is...some don't think about how annoying they can be...

  14. Love the fountain and we did the same thing with the AC. Why don't they tell you to put it behind the garage or something.

  15. I love fountains and waterfalls and water features of all kinds, and I don't a single one in my yard, something that will have to be remedied soon!

Meanwhile, come by and see the waterfall I found made out of a pickup truck cab at a local farmers market--

  18. Beautiful fountains -- what a great find. I agree wholeheartedly with you about your advice. The thing is when moving or building a home, why do we only notice those sounds after we're settled in? I have a pond with a waterfall and fountain and then another fountain at the front of the home. With the hot weather here in the midwest, however, it's been a chose keeping the small fountain water clear and not green. And I can't put bleach in due to the birds getting thirsty and enjoying drinking from the fountain, so I am emptying it out (what a task), and refilling it every couple of days. Do you have any other suggestions in that regard? Thank you for sharing your post with the Boardwalk Bragfest. Have a "cool" day ;)

  19. I love both your beautiful fountains!
What a great find. I'm working my way up to making one, starting with smaller concrete objects.
I've noticed people put ac compressors right near where they sit. I always wondered why - I guess its the service guys idea!

  20. I love the fountains! Ole Boy and I keep saying we'd like to do a pond/fountain type thing in our back yard, but all we do is talk. And...our air conditioner is back there and it drives me crazy, too.

  21. I love your fountains!What a great find!
Regarding the placement of the air conditioner - I don't understand why tradesman don't think of how the placement of their units will affect the homeowner. I am a kitchen designer and go into a lot of homes and have seen some things that make you shake your head and say "why did they do that?". Thanks for the nice comment on my closet post and for becoming a new follower!

  23. Oh Miss Laura,
Thanks for visiting me again this week. I always find something new we have in common whenever I come here. The tinkling of a fountain is one of my most favorite things (along with new sharpened pencils and the smell of the library) and yours is just lovely. If you think I write like you do, I'm considering that a huge compliment (and not just because you're an English teacher either!)

  24. Oh how I love a fountain and I don't have one! Thankfully... my compressor is not near the pool area! Big hugs and I love the sound of that water trickling in your fountain!

Have a blessed day my friend!

  25. Laura I love your fountain!!! I want one sooo bad! I haven't been able to find one I can afford yet, but when I do....
The funny thing is though, whenever I'm at the nursery and I hear theirs, it always makes me want to go potty!lol I guess I'll just go potty a lot!

  30. That fountain is knocking my socks off too! And you took such gorgeous pictures of it. I have two fountains, one on my back porch and one in my secret garden, and now I want one more somewhere up front. There's nothing like the sound of gently tinkling water!
    Happy WW!
