Dawn or Dusk

IMG_1412

There aren’t many symbols in the world as powerful as the multiple meanings of the word ‘light’.

There are too many to list: let there be light, to shed light , to bring something to light.

I had the opportunity to ponder this while reading a photography book yesterday.

The author said to remember there are only two real times a day to shoot a landscape: at dawn or at dusk.

This afternoon I reveled in that, playing with some of my favorite whites.

I found this handwork years ago, and I have used it at Christmas parties, bridal showers, and on the cake table at our daughter’s wedding.

And then I added some of my other favorite whites, whose beauty becomes almost opalescent at dusk.

The plates are a collection of milk glass, and I have had the vases for years. They started to sparkle and come alive once the sun hit.

All of these items reminded me of my favorite pearl earrings and necklace, so I experimented with them as well.

Why dusk or dawn? Because as Scott Kelby says ‘these are the only times of the day when you can get the soft, warm light and warm shadows’.

  3. Hi! I'm visiting from White Wednesday. Thanks for sharing these beatiful photos. :) I love how they all capture the light but the one of the pearl necklace is my favorite.

I've been taking so many photos at sunset in recent weeks that my hubby dubbed us "Sunset Chasers" (to the tune of Power Rangers - ha!). You won't find us out there at dawn...yet.

  12. Definitely dawn or dusk... I am always disappointed in outdoor photos taken at any other time of the day.

    Love the white!

  13. Yesterday, I think I finally learned that it's best to take pictures at dawn or dusk. I had to delete and retake so many pictures, because of the sun!

    Happy White Wednesday!

  18. This was truly a pure and refreshing post and attention to detail in the everyday beauty that usually takes a backseat to the normal pops of color. The fact that you took these pictures makes it perfection :)
