Tree of Life

IMGP1266

It is a real blessing in life to accept the things about one’s personality that are distinctly yours.

If I hadn’t accepted the fact that I love to explore and will go places (even alone), then I never would have found

The Tree of Life Nursery.

IMGP1277

This nursery is known by many, but it calls to me for three key reasons:

* the plants are healthy

*1/2 gallon plants are $3.50 and gallon sized plants are $7.00

*very little English is spoken

IMGP1289

Even when it is 99 degrees outside, I enjoy visiting this nursery with my yard clothes on, my baseball cap and sunglasses on (preferably Ray Ban aviators) and the willingness to have the back end of my Tahoe covered in leaves, potting soil, and red mulch.

I feel

EMPOWERED.

I am getting ready to plant something.

I also get to sing along with the radio, dancing in my mind and giggling about my receipt.

My hope for you this Sunday afternoon is that you too have a Tree of Life (or a junk store, or a chapel, or a family member’s house, or a favorite route home that makes you feel empowered too.

Postscript:  While writing this post, my two grandsons were wrestling at my feet, trying to get each other’s books that I bought them at Half Priced Books in Humble.

We drove there yesterday morning to have pancakes at the Humble Cafe.

I had to order them each an extra pancake, they were so good.

  8. I think the name Tree of Life is just inspiring...oh and the prices! We had to return a hydragena today. It just wasn't going to make it. I have never heard of plumbago under the rock where I live. Enjoy planting your lovelies.

  9. Lovely, lovely flowers. Isn't time spent alone so wonderful? I have a nursery similar to Tree of Life out my way. Located many miles out in the country and run by three sisters who live on the farm.

  12. 99 degrees?!?! We can't seem to quite get summer here yet. I think todays high was 77 and storms kept passing through. Too wet to get outside and do anything. If the rain ever stops the mosquitos will be terrible.

  18. I am just now dipping my toe in the gardening phenomenon. I'm trying to learn more about what I have luck with and what I don't. I'm really enjoying your beautiful garden and congrats on the great nursery. Keep sharing ~ if mine die then I can live vicariously through you. :)

  23. I can't even grow the silk kind... I water them and water them and they just don't make it. Makes no sense to me.

So - in the meantime - I'll push your cart through the Tree of Life for you if you will let me play in your garden!!!

    :-) gorgeous photos!

  24. There's nothing quite like taking off for parts unknown, and finding a treasure. I have friends who think I'm nuts for going off by myself like I do ... it's not always feasible to have a friend to go with, especially during the week. I did Pennsylvania and back as a day trip on Sunday (510 miles round trip. I'll never do THAT again) But it was a wonderful adventure. Now I'm in the mood to go hunt junk.

  25. This sounds very familiar as sometimes when I'm working out in the flower gardens it just strikes me that I MUST go to my local garden shop that very moment. They probably would have to look twice to recognize me in nice clothes as they always see me in work mode! Your flowers are so gorgeous!
