It is a real blessing in life to accept the things about one’s personality that are distinctly yours.
If I hadn’t accepted the fact that I love to explore and will go places (even alone), then I never would have found
The Tree of Life Nursery.
This nursery is known by many, but it calls to me for three key reasons:
* the plants are healthy
*1/2 gallon plants are $3.50 and gallon sized plants are $7.00
*very little English is spoken
Even when it is 99 degrees outside, I enjoy visiting this nursery with my yard clothes on, my baseball cap and sunglasses on (preferably Ray Ban aviators) and the willingness to have the back end of my Tahoe covered in leaves, potting soil, and red mulch.
I feel
EMPOWERED.
I am getting ready to plant something.
I also get to sing along with the radio, dancing in my mind and giggling about my receipt.
My hope for you this Sunday afternoon is that you too have a Tree of Life (or a junk store, or a chapel, or a family member’s house, or a favorite route home that makes you feel empowered too.
(my new white plumbago)

Postscript: While writing this post, my two grandsons were wrestling at my feet, trying to get each other’s books that I bought them at Half Priced Books in Humble.
We drove there yesterday morning to have pancakes at the Humble Cafe.
I had to order them each an extra pancake, they were so good.
I love looking at that luscious bed of impatiens!
ReplyDeleteLooks like my kind of place-Plants and good prices!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Lorilee
I can't even begin to imagine plants that size at that price! No wonder you were feeling go good!
ReplyDeleteAren't those places divine? Love the white plumbago. Enjoy your new plantings.
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful to me, Laura. I have a nursery here that is Heaven on Earth. It's not the least expensive but the plants are beautiful.I too feel empowered when I have a project like that going on. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I would love to go there! Looks like wonderful plants. I did that yesterday, bought plants and soil and pots, went home and planted some tomato plants my friend had given me. I was hot, sweaty, dirty and smiling!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY SUNDAY LAURA,
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! IF I SAW PRICES LIKE THAT I WOULD THINK THERE WAS A HIDDEN CAMERA SOME WHERE WAITING TO SEE MY EXPRESSION WHEN THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A JOKE...LOL
I LOVE THE NAME, TREE OF LIFE.
YOUR PLANTS ARE BEAUTIFUL.
I DON'T KNOW IF I FEEL IMPOWERED BUT IT MAKES ME VERY HAPPY TO VISIT ANYWHERE THAT HAS HEALTHY PLANTS, BIRD FEEDERS, BIRD BATHS, AND THE SUCH. I LOVE WORKING IN MY FLOWER BEDS BUT WITH THE HEAT HAVE NOT WORKED AS MUCH AS USUAL.I LOVE POTTING PLANTS.
HAVE A BLESSED WEEK

I think the name Tree of Life is just inspiring...oh and the prices! We had to return a hydragena today. It just wasn't going to make it. I have never heard of plumbago under the rock where I live. Enjoy planting your lovelies.

Lovely, lovely flowers. Isn't time spent alone so wonderful? I have a nursery similar to Tree of Life out my way. Located many miles out in the country and run by three sisters who live on the farm.
ReplyDeleteI didn't plant anything today, but I did do a little weeding. ugh. So many weeds, so little time.

What a wonderful name for a nursery! Getting a bargain always feels good.:)
ReplyDelete99 degrees?!?! We can't seem to quite get summer here yet. I think todays high was 77 and storms kept passing through. Too wet to get outside and do anything. If the rain ever stops the mosquitos will be terrible.
ReplyDeleteGreat prices and the plants looks healthy! Wished I could have found that kind of bargain.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with the Grands!
OMG those inpatients are gorgeous! And pancakes with the grandkids? We are kindred souls.
ReplyDeleteHappy planting (and don't forget the after pics!)
Goodness, those are some great prices and for healthy plants? Wow! Enjoy your day and my tree of life hangs full of blessings:) Have a great Monday dear Laura! HUGS!
ReplyDeleteoh my- what a stunning bed of briliant flowers! I am stunned by those prices too! What a lovely place to spend some time on a Sunday, I truly love my alone time too!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week Miss Laura!

Love the impatiens....they look so healthy. The last photo of the geraniums is my favorite.....brilliant color! Makes me want to get out in the garden and start digging!
ReplyDeleteI am just now dipping my toe in the gardening phenomenon. I'm trying to learn more about what I have luck with and what I don't. I'm really enjoying your beautiful garden and congrats on the great nursery. Keep sharing ~ if mine die then I can live vicariously through you. :)
ReplyDeleteThose were great prices. I was shocked at how much plants are when I went out to get some annuals last week! xo Joan@anythinggoeshere
ReplyDeleteHi Laura! Oh, what a wonderful nursery and I love the name! My, they do have some good prices too! Gorgeous plants.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for popping in to see me.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love impatiens. That picture made me want to plant even more of them.
ReplyDeleteLucky you finding such a wonderfully priced store.
What is it with grandkids and pancakes? Tho when my granddaughter is here it is french toast:)
Gorgeous flowering plants and great prices! Wish I could get that kind of quality, for those prices. Gardening is so much fun, and so rewarding! Can't wait to see the after pics!
ReplyDeleteI can't even grow the silk kind... I water them and water them and they just don't make it. Makes no sense to me.
ReplyDeleteSo - in the meantime - I'll push your cart through the Tree of Life for you if you will let me play in your garden!!!
:-) gorgeous photos!

There's nothing quite like taking off for parts unknown, and finding a treasure. I have friends who think I'm nuts for going off by myself like I do ... it's not always feasible to have a friend to go with, especially during the week. I did Pennsylvania and back as a day trip on Sunday (510 miles round trip. I'll never do THAT again) But it was a wonderful adventure. Now I'm in the mood to go hunt junk.

This sounds very familiar as sometimes when I'm working out in the flower gardens it just strikes me that I MUST go to my local garden shop that very moment. They probably would have to look twice to recognize me in nice clothes as they always see me in work mode! Your flowers are so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHugs N Herbal Blessings, Mandy
Oh my stars, nearly 100 degrees in TX already. Whew, your a better woman than I am. ha ha
ReplyDeleteNever heard of that nursery but will have to go there! Ya'll were in our neck of the woods!
