If anyone ever wondered where we live, there are great maps being televised today indicating
the path of HURRICANE ALEX.
In anticipation of ,at the minimum ,heavy rains and no electricity, I thought I’d do a post on what I found at the flea market this past weekend.
That makes sense, right?
I have wanted a tilting coffee server (what is the correct name?) for years, and when I spotted this at my crazy, unpredictable flea market, which is not exactly known for its silver plate treasures, my eyes may have rolled back in my head.
When I asked the price (in Spanish), and the vendor said
“diez dolares” ($10.00),
they rolled back.
Sold.
Do things like that make your eyes roll?
I kept walking , feeling like I was on a roll (sorry), and I found these.
These three pieces (two coffee servers and a water pitcher) were poised at the end of a table.
I asked the price for all 3.
“ treinta dolares.” ($30.00)
My eyes blinked in slow motion.
The vendor sensing my hesitation , which actually wasn’t the case, said
“veinte siete dolares.” ($27.00)
Sold.
And so as we prepare (seriously) for this new weather onslaught, I am headed outside to talk to my tomatoes and zinnias and to help my husband move lawn furniture.

Morning Laura...
Ohh my...what treasure finds! Wow...I can't believe that you got all of those gorgeous silver pieces for just $27...that's awesome, my friend! They really are pretty!!!
I am watching that hurricane as well. All my family is in Corpus or nearby. I'm praying, my friend!!!
Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design
What a gorgeous coffee server!!!
I hope you fare Alex well. We're also expecting flooding and high winds in our area. Guess it's time to batten down the hatches!
I have often wondered exactly where you are. Our family down around Houston and Galveston experienced Hurricane Ike and the "not so much fun" evacuation that took place. Looks like you can stay put this time. Right? I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you.
Stay safe! Love your silver finds each of them.
I will be praying for you. Living in south Alabama I am very familiar with hurricane damage and power outages.
You find the best deals! Love your silver finds. The tilting coffee server is my favorite.
Gor-Gous silver finds!!! I can imagine how they'll look all shiny!!
I've been watching Alex as well - I have family down in the coastal bend and don't really believe the forecasters as to where these things will go until they are actually on land. Hunker down sweet friend!!
Make sure you strap down all your silver... wouldn't want it to blow away! You really did find some lovelies.
Wishing you luck, safety and minimal damage by this impending hurricane! I'd be running for my life.

What wonderful finds, Laura! They are really beautiful!
I'm saying a prayer that Alex will be nothing more than a good shower for you and your zinnias.:)
Beautiful treasures indeed, Laura! And all found on the same day. Love it.
I'll keep you in my thoughts. I had a feeling you were in this area.
xoxo

In Virginia now, but as a veteran of Betsey and Camille, wishing you a safe trip through Alex.
Wow, Laura! You scored big!
I ran into your Uncle Bob last night at Big House Burgers. He says he has something for you. I think it was a piece of furniture. When you come up, we need to have lunch.
I hope that Alex doesn't cause you any problems. We are expecting LOTS of rain.
Smiles,
Teresa
My goodness - I missed the news last night because I fell asleep. I hope you and yours stay safe and that there's not a big loss of property as so often happens with a hurricane.
Your thrifty finds are great!...and I thought of your blog name on the weekend when I spray painted an old iron garden table..........white!
Nice finds. Sure hope Alex does not cause any problems for you.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the suggestions! I hope you are safe and have minimal damage through the hurricane!
Hi Laura! What lovely finds!
We live in Galveston and you know were hit by Ike. I'm praying for you and know how numb these hurricanes can make you feel! It's scary!
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Laura,
I'm praying that this storm will not be bad! Thanks for coming to my party with all your beautiful SILVER treasures!
Blessings,
Linda
Hi Laura,
Well..I will be thinking of you today and hoping the storm doesn't hit you hard.
Beautiful finds.
Hang in there!

Hey Laura, I too am a huge fan of silver teapots, etc. Love your new found treasures! Hope you fair well in the hurricane....be safe. We'll be thinking of you all.
What a wonderful collection you now have.
I pray that the storm passes you by.
Thank you for your kind comments and support.
May only lovely things be awaiting when you open your door.
What beautiful finds!
Stay safe and I'll keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
Stay safe and dry during the hurricane. They are beautiful but potentially dangerous storms!
As for your pot -- I think it's usually called a "swinging kettle," and can be used for coffee or tea. Yours is lovely,AND a great buy. I love old silverplate!
Cass
Your eyes were rolling because you were stealing those pieces:) Love them my friend! Stay safe down there and yell if you need rescuing! You can come stay in my little pool house!
HUGS!
Wow! What fantastic finds for great prices!
Great silver finds! Love that tilting coffee server. Batten down the hatches, cher! You are in my thoughts and prayers. And don't forget to buy a battery operated fan.(available at Walgreens) These save us, during power outages.
THAT is why we are having so much rain! I've been so busy that I haven't even watched the news. Batten down the hatches and I hope everything turns out ok. LOVE LOVE LOVE your silver! What a bargain. Muy bueno chica!
Good deals. Hope you don't get too much of that nasty weather. We are just glad Alex isn't heading for the oil spill site.
Those are some great bargains!
Oh boy - keep safe! Love your treasures. Now, batten down the hatches!
xo

What fantastic finds..and worth every cent and more! I love all of them!
I have to admit to being envious of your pending storm. I know they can be distructive, but the weather in California, though beautiful right now, is ...very boring! Yes, boring! :) Enjoy your storm..such a cozy time!
Thanks for sharing..
Mona
Laura, Love all of your silver finds! I always look for silver whenever I'm out. You did really well on the prices!! Stay dry and safe in the storms to come.
:-) sue
Hurricane preparation is going on in our home too, Laura. As we drove down our beautiful street with all of the tree branches and leaves making our lane almost look like a lane in the good old U.S. of A. I thought how lovely they looked. Then hubby pointed out how the electrical lines are entangled in those lovely branches. Rats! We may indeed have an electrical problem. Always an adventure living here, right??
It's a great time really to just hunker down and prove our pioneer, survival spirit still exists. Coleman stove, flashlights, candles and wine ready!!

Hi Laura...what great finds. You have two things there that I have been looking for as well...so far unsuccessfully. The 'swinging' coffee server and the water pitcher. My eyes would roll back in my head if I found them at the prices you snagged them with, as well.
Wow! I want to go to your flea market! Ours never has anything good and if it does you pay out the nose for it! Also wanted to say Thanks for stopping by my blog, Walking On Old Paths. Hope you will come again soon!
Grace & Peace
Awesome silver pieces, Laura! Hope you won't be visited by Alex...stay safe.
Prayers to you regarding the hurricane. We live just north of Houston and have been watching Alex's path too. I pray that you guys won't be effected.
Those silver pieces are GORGEOUS! Congrats on the bargain!
Laura, Stay safe during the hurricane! I know what damage they are capable of. We lived in the Florida Panhandle and our area was hit twice within 9 months. The entire inside of our home had to be gutted.
The silver pieces are beautiful...especially the tilting coffee server. You got some great deals too.
xo, Sherry
You guys are in my prayers...can you polish silver in the dark?
love ya,
Debra
Isn't Debra funny? Laura, you found some pieces I would love to see here in my house! Does your alarm system work when the power is out too? I hope that you are safe from Alex, and I will be watching this storm carefully. Blessings to you and your property.
Hugs
Hi Laura, what beautiful finds!
I hope you and your family stay safe! I'm flying to Houston this Friday and wondering what the weather will be like there. Scary!
Stay safe!
Sandra
Flea markets around here are mostly dumps!!!! No wonderful treasures like you found. Hope the hurricane weather misses you altogether. I wish you lived next door so you could give me blogging lessons....I don't have a clue about a lot of things yet! Your blog is great, especially the pictures.
Silver distraction good. Alex not. Be safe. Will send prayers up for you. ~olive~
Wonderful Silver finds! I love the look of the pouring coffee pot!! Stay safe from that Hurricane! Watching it myself, I have family in Corpus Christi!
Stay safe! I think I've hear of those being called "tea tippers".
Man alive! Did you ever come out smiling on that deal! Those are some truly awesome pieces. I hope you'll show us how you display them. Yes, eyes rolling and knees buckling are symptoms I have had over fantatic finds like yours. Good for you.
I'm sorry about your worries. Prayers going up for you, Laura.
Donna
Laura...I just wanted to let you know that at the top of my post I wrote a little note telling where to find them. They only run from 12.00 or so and you can even get them for less. Just type in the name, Betty Crocker recipe keeper:from the heart, and it will pop up and you can order them right there. :) You don't even have to run around looking. I am buying them for my daughters too! Great Christmas present. :)
I live lower on the coast ,but I am still worried! Hope you do fine. Lovely silver!!! It was a great find.
Dottie
Wonderful post and terrific finds...things we love can help take our minds of things that worry us...I would post too.
I know exactly what you means about eyes rolling and blinking in disbelief. I'm just wondering if you had blinked again or faked a walk away, just how low would he go. Anyway you got some beauties there girlfriend.
Enjoy them all ;-)
G'morn Laura ~ Been watching Alex heading at you ... please do take good care & know that we are praying for everyone your way in that path.
Love your treasures ... what great purchases & the prices, voila!
TTFN ~ Hugs, Marydon
Praying you stay safe and dry - Jennifer
Oooo, Laura, what great finds you scored!! BRAVO!
I well remember the anxiety prior to a hurricane's arrival. I used to pace & eat just about everything perishable in the house. God forbid, it should be wasted if the power went out.
I'll be thinking of you & hoping it is mild or misses you completely.
Try to Have a Happy 4th of July!
The Gazebo House
What great finds! I love them!!

Laura, I hope you don't get really bad weather. I love your post and I love the silver pieces you got and of course those were killer deals!!
Hi! So happy to have you join my blog. It looks like we enjoy lots of the same things. I checked out your profile and see that you're a retired high school English teacher, as is my Dad. So, maybe you can be my unofficial editor ;) Thanks for coming by!
Laura! You racked up girl!! I love them all, but my heart jumped when I saw the water pitcher!! $27.00!!! Oh my gosh!!
Lou Cinda :)
Great finds, Laura. I want to shop at your flea! LOL
Hope all is well. Central TX is getting lots of rain too. It started on Tuesday. We need it!
