It All Started With This

IMG_0398

It all started with this photograph in one of my magazines.  This is Kate Shifrin of Come Flea With Me (great business name). She and her sister host flea market excursions (great idea), and although that caught my attention, what really did were these.

I had to have a collection of lockets like these. I had to.  A quest was born.  I know you understand this natural (dark side) response. It needed to be immediate, if at all possible.

Once that search began at local thrift stores , and my collection grew, I needed a place to hang them.

So I took a spoon holder I found at an antique mall in McKinney, and because displaying spoons is not my thing , I am using it to hold my lockets.

Quest # 1million and ten accomplished.

I found my newest one, with a glass cameo, at La Bahia, outside Round Top for $5.  The rest were inexpensive too.

  2. Very clever. So simple and it looks great. I'll have to keep my open for one of these...I never gave them a 2nd look before because like you I don't collect spoons. And how cute is that Kate Shifrin wearing all those lockets at the same time. I never think to do cute things like that on my own!

  8. Hello Laura,

Ok, don't I know how that dark side kicks in with a mission of "now" or I'll surely die. :0) I'm that way with certain vintage fabrics. ♥ I love, love your lockets and the repurposing of the spoon holder.

I'm visiting for Three or More Tuesday...do drop by when you have a moment.

    Stephanie

  18. I love your blog and your lockets. What a clever use of a spoon rack. I just read your post about shopping with your daughters. I have three daughters too and I can hear a near verbatim conversation in my head with my daughter's voices.

  21. Thank you for your sweet words! I have already found two things we have in common...a love of junk/thrift shopping, and the belief in McDonald's coffee! You must be a true coffee drinker to choose it over Starbucks.

  22. Fabulous collection of lockets, Laura! I understand about obsessions. I'm that way with seashore items. Thanks for the great links!

  23. How clever to repurpose a spoon holder! I know what you mean, I too, need instant collections sometimes; can't stop until the mission is accomplished.

  24. Every piece of jewelry I own is kind of stuffed into a huge make-up case .... I need to go shopping with you!

  25. A spoon rack? A spppooooon rack?
Do you have ANY idea how many times I pass these up thinking...what a waste of a cute shelf as I do not collect spoons! NOW? I'll be on the hunt for one and I won't find it!

I love this idea Laura! My Sophie's neck is dripping with jewelry, most of which I made and I think she's about to suffocate. So therefore...I'll be spoon rack hunting this weekend thanks to you! (and Sophie thanks you too!)
    :)
