There are so many things I never knew about what happens in a yard when there are four actual seasons and periodic rain.
In south Texas we have actually had a winter, we actually had rain, and we are at the beginning of an actual spring.
In fact this is so unusual I have even questioned the results.
“Why is the grass green?”
“I didn’t know my rose bush could do that.”
“Why is it blooming like that??
I never knew I could grow a daffodil .
Or that some day I would have a raised bed for zinnias and tomatoes. I planted these this morning.
This gives me such pleasure .
I never knew how much fun a rotating garden seat could provide on a narrow patio in front of my garden shed.
I never knew that considering whether I will paint my garden shed porch chair purple, yellow, or turquoise would be so much fun-
Or that drinking Community Club coffee (medium roast), in my Spode Blue Italian mug, while listening to NPR radio , digging in my raised beds, could create such a sense of relaxation and peace.

Hello Miss Laura! Four Seasons are lovely, aren't they? Look at you the outdoor girl loving her garden. It is truly wonderful being out in God's beautiful world, loving nature and relaxing, a perfect kind of day for me too! Your rose looks so beautiful and delicate, and love that yellow daffodil! Thanks for sharing! Will be waiting now to see what color your chair will be!
ReplyDeleteLaura - that rose in the white glass is so beautiful. Sometimes I think we miss the beauty in the simple things. We looks so hard for big beauty we miss the smaller things. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWonder what color of chair you will end up with? We do have the four seasons here - every year. We're lucky.

I know exactly what you mean! We actually had some distinct seasons this year. I love that swively seat you have there...I need one! The last few weeks have really given us a nice spring to sit in the yard with a cup of coffee and contemplate color....another favorite thing of mine. Happy Spring from Houston! PS: Beautiful pictures...
ReplyDeleteI know! Isn't it amazing? I guess there is an up side to global warming.:)
ReplyDeleteI love the four seasons as long as winter doesn't last forever! Beautiful pink rose..
ReplyDeleteI vote for turquoise! Your roses are so very beautiful! How fun to be out in the garden...we don't plant annuals here until June 1rst. We have had 3 nice warm days though, thought I was in Heaven! Come say hi :D
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post......I think I'm relaxed enough to maybe take a nap now.......I love gardening too and it's so healthy for your diet too. You'll have to keep us aprised of how your garden comes along this Spring and Summer.
ReplyDeleteLaura, lovely post! I know what you mean, gal! Nothin like getting your hands dirty!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love the warmer (usually) Virginia weather, spring here is never as sweet as it was in Minnesota, after 8 months of winter.
ReplyDeleteThis year, though, it's really really close.
Is that a really small vase or are those roses the size of cantelopes?! The colors on your post today are so vibrant.I cant do what you're doing until about MOthers day. LIke two more MOnths!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLaura, it is sublime to work in the garden. I'm still at the cleanup stage; there are leaves everywhere and last years' dead growth. Not fun at all. But, the crows and the hawks are arguing, the wind is rustling in the trees, my peacock is calling from across the pond and the horse in the field is kicking up her heels and neighing.
ReplyDeleteI never knew I could feel peace just reading a lovely stranger's blog, or be embraced by a sense of calm just from looking at pictures of a beautiful bloom. Thank you for that!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the very best kind of day to me. Gardening, thinking about paint colors, drinking coffee, and NPR. I love NPR!

People think I am nuts for loving the weather in Chicago, (yes, we have very cold winters and very hot summers~most of the time) but what I really love is four distinct seasons. I think you are feeling some of that passion right now. Your roses are gorgeous and that little daffodil is just so sweet. I love your veggie garden, too. I have 2 more months to wait before I have the sun on my back and my hands in the dirt, but I'm patient. Every season has something to offer and right now it's just a nice breeze blowing through the window.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Laura!! :-)

Beautiful flowers. Oh, my heart be still. You are growing tomatoes that will really taste like tomatoes, not just look like tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we've had actual seasons in Texas since the 70's...it's really kinda cool...love your white pitcher...I collect milk glass...
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're ready for Spring! Beautiful post and flowers! We're finally warming up and the azaleas are starting to bloom. Such a lovely time of year, albeit a little late this year.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I hate our Canadian winters, spring... now there's a season I adore! I'm glad you've 'got it!"
ReplyDeleteYour roses are just gorgeous... and daffodils! That's what a real winter will do. You've really been busy, the raised beds look great. Zinnias! Love the idea of a turquoise chair in the garden and that little swivel tractor seat is really cool!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Debra
Laura... I saw the first bluebonnets of the season while driving on 410 on the southside of San Antonio this week... I wanted to stop my truck, jump out with the camera and snap photos! of course... my camera was at home on my desk... so much for spontaneity... but oh how I love the springtime in South Texas! We are lucky folks! those roses are magnificent!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,It is starting to look alot like spring YYYAAAA!!! Love the milk glass mug with the pink flower...I vote for turquoise paint...

Oh, you had a wonderful day and I cannot wait to start working out in our yard. It is suppose to be cold here again next week. Ugh
ReplyDeleteI am ready to fill my pots with annuals, but to early here. Temps suppose to drop in the 30's Sun. night! :(
ReplyDeleteLaura your wonderful post has made me just a teeny bit envious. Here you are already out playing in your garden and me sitting here with low temps still in the lower thirties. I think I'll sit here and pretend I'm you, writing this lovely post after getting your hands dirty planting your tomatoes and enjoying your beautiful rose bloom. You are blessed today.
ReplyDeletehugs
Oh how beautiful Laura! Love the rose and the jonquil! Have a blessed day my friend, enjoy the sunshine:)
ReplyDeleteLaura- You sound like a woman who finds great peace in appreciating the little things. Isn't is wonderful?!! I think that is one of the reasons I love digging in the dirt. It reminds me to be thankful. Thanks for a great way to start my day!
ReplyDeleteLot's of pretty stuff.
ReplyDeleteStrange I only found you tonight especially since we have a lot of the same friends. Actually found you on the Texas site. I joined that not too long ago.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed all your pictures and love how you did this post.
I am your latest follower of many and hope to get to know you better
Maggie
I think this is the year that I will plant pink roses if they can look like yours, beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait to get out in the Yard (which really isn't a yard YET) and get my hands busy.
ReplyDeleteWe just moved in here June, and there is lots of work to be done.
so far I have NO flowers
we want to plant a garden (providing we can keep the deer out)
and get a couple of big flower pots for the deck
etc etc etc
and I want a colorful chair to sit on and drink mhy coffee while breathing in that great country air
in Alberta Canada..we have 4 very pronounced seasons...I often complain, but you know...it does keep me from getting tired of things...and it keeps it fresh ...always something different to prep for!
ReplyDeletegreat post thanks for linking in with me!
