FOR TODAY
Outside my window... I have been working ALL DAY in my yard – hard, hard, hard work.
This was the kind of work where you get so dirty you do guy things like wipe your mouth on your sleeve.
Nothing mattered but the work . I pushed myself , and then I pushed myself harder. I took my gloves off so I could feel the dirt , and I could loosen the soil around the roots on my roses.
That made me laugh because I thought of the times I took tight shoes and socks or ballet leotards off my squirming little girls- and I would say-
“Now doesn’t that feel better?”
I am thinking... that I crave roses. I planted 9 rose bushes today. They love their food from Three Rivers that Aissa gave me. I need more. I need to talk to Mary Jo about that the next time she goes to Three Rivers.
I am thankful for... the idea gift that came to me today , all rolled into one: do it anyway. From the kitchen... For breakfast this morning I had a cup of vanilla yogurt with pineapple chunks and banana slices, for lunch I had tuna salad with green salad and triscuits, and for supper I ate a bowl of beans and avocado salad , mashed with diced tomatoes, and topped with Nature’s Seasoning ( the all time best garlic salt). I drank unsweetened iced tea all day.
The beans were from our Easter supper:
My husband made BBQ brisket and pinto beans, and I made a salad and hash brown casserole.
My husband is eating Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream with Hershey’s chocolate syrup while he watches the game. I may have to ambush him.
I was wearing... clothes that may never be the same. I took a bath and a shower when I came in (one right after the other).
I am creating... the need for a muscle relaxer.
I am going...to work with my teacher interns all week. They have so much they need to complete before the end of the school year.
I am grateful for a Monday in my yard. I tried to listen to music while I worked, but it wasn’t that kind of day.
I am reading... blogs. I enjoy reading about how people live simply, cook from their pantry, prepare for hard times, live in small communities or out in the country, plant a garden, and love their families.
I am hoping... that the hyacinth blue (purple) paint I bought to paint the side yard fence looks like I think it will.
I am hearing… the basketball game in the background.
Around the house...I see my shoes. I like to go barefoot, and I take them off whenever the mood strikes.
A few plans for the rest of the week… check on my interns and price things for the booth at the antique mall.

Sounds like a good week..especially the desperate to see the grandkids...I feel that way too! :D
ReplyDeleteI SO miss the mountain laurel we had back home...one of my favorite trees. Do you have purple sage, too? They are great weather predictors!
ReplyDeleteLaura I love reading your daybook posts. The Mountain Laurel is just gorgeous. And sister you have no business running a chainsaw! lol But I bet you'd be fierce at it.
ReplyDeleteI planted a mountain laurel several years ago and it has yet to bloom. What am I doing wrong???
ReplyDeleteQuestion...would that be a hired hand's bed?
Debbie
OM Goodness, I wish that was my view, beautiful. No flowers here for another few months, and they will be crocuses and tulips that will droop under the weight of spring snow.
ReplyDeleteI am with your Dad... give me the ham:) Love the beautiful flowers and YES, I see the bee! It is raining here this morning, I will be staying in today and getting caught up on some chores. Have a blessed day dear Laura!
ReplyDeleteYou life seems charming and full of all the right stuff, Laura. Kudos for knowing what to focus on.
ReplyDeleteYour laurel trees are stunning! I am so ready for Spring but it looks like we are going to get another dose of Winter this week. BIG SIGH!
ReplyDeleteIt's such exciting news about your booth at the antique mall! Can't wait for you to share it with us.:)
The mountain laurel is just beautiful! I can't wait for Spring! Your nephew is one lucky guy and you are a wonderful aunt! Have fun with the grandkids!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit and I picked a lovely time; mountain laurels are one of the most beautiful blooming tree/shrub/whatever in Texas! You photos are beautiful, I can almost smell the grape kool aid scent! Every year I promise myself I will find a place to plant one, every year I fail to do so. Maybe this year I will.
ReplyDeletepretty flowers....sounds like a busy week...

I am drooling. Totally drooling. We have gray weather, and NOTHING blooming, and I SO love Mountain Laurel. Boo Hoo Boo Hoo (maybe ours will bloom (later) this year:)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful flowers..with so many signs and promises of spring. I can hardly wait..I am out trying to visit all the Texas Bloggin Gals..I've only been a member a couple of weeks and just now trying to visit everyone...Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteYour purple blossoms are just beautiful, and I had to laugh about your husband being in the "raised bed". That sounds like some kind of bizarre Hitchcock movie "plot". OK, now I'm cracking myself up. te he. What will your poor nephew do when Basketball season is over?
ReplyDeleteHugs and love, dear Laura.
Debra
Hello fellow South Texas Blogger...I'm in Houston. I got a chuckle out of your blog...very entertaining and cool! I'll be back!
ReplyDeletewhat I would not give for a beautiful display like this in my garden! what gorgeous color!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Your dad sounded so wistful about wanting a ham - what a great surprise you could have for him! I agree with him about using the chain saw - they scare me - just one slip...When my husband used to use one, I'd go in the house and fervently pray the entire time!
ReplyDeleteRegarding your previous post, I love milk glass too - just have a few items but would love to see lots more pictures of yours. Especially a milk glass punch bowl - I've never seen one...
