The temperature finally dropped yesterday- and even though it is rising steadily today- I am making vegetable soup for football Saturday.
My self-taught recipe is simple.
Brown a package of stew meat in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Season with Nature’s Seasoning. Add one coarsely chopped onion and a teaspoon of minced garlic.
Add 1 large can of whole tomatoes and 2 small cans of tomato sauce.
Pour in enough water to fill the pot 3/4 of the way. Add any vegetables you have on hand. Today I added carrots, potatoes , corn, yellow squash, and green beans.
The last step is adding cilantro.
Simple food for a simple Saturday.

this is perfect for today...it is snowing like a blizzard and cold and dreary outside!
I love soup weather!
It's a great day for soup!!
Yum, my husband once said he was going to make homemade vegetable soup. He came back from the store with a bunch of canned veggies...I am sure yours is much better!
I love making soup, it's perfect for those chilly winter days!
Sounds good. We are having chili/soup weather here today also. It is 56, and a gray and dreary day.
What a delicious recipe and so simple. I can hardly wait until we start cooking for fall! Don't you just love it??
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Sounds delicious. I should have done somethings like that today.
We had a record snowfall here today. The grass is still green and the leavs have just began to change. One good thing about this, it's officially soup weather! I like your recipe!
It has turned gray and dreary here in KY. The Fall chill in certainly in the air. Love the soup recipe.
I think the process of making soup is relaxing too. Slowly browning meat, chopping onions, carrots, potatoes or whatever veggies you're using... waiting for it to come to a boil, simmering, stirring, adding spices, tasting, the whole process is relaxing.
What a twist to veggie soup by adding cilantro. Looks really good!
Definitely soup weather in my neck of the woods. Check out my post today if you have a moment!

I love homemade vegetable soup! Yours looks so yummy, but my mom makes the BEST ;)
Hi Laura!
Homemade soup is always the best and your recipe is so easy! Thank you, I'll try it when it gets cooler (which I hope is soon)!!
Manuela
I think I can smell it from here! Delish!!

Oooh, Laura! I can almost smell that pot of soup...it would be great right now for dinner! Did you have much left over?
Hey Laura, sounds so good I can almost smell it. There's nothing like some homemade comfort food!
Girl, thanks for the sweet thoughts and words. I feel exactly the same about you. Certain people I know speak from the bottom of their heart, and you are one. Just like this post... comfortable and unpretentious. Love that...and always love to hear your "take" on things.
Hope it cools down for you soon. We've been pretty chilly up here. But I'm not complaining, this is my favorite time of year!

Laura,
Thanks for coming by and entering the contest.
Big pot of stew sounds good on chilly days like this.

Honestly Laura, that looks infinitely better than anything Rachael Ray could ever concoct!
Soooo....what time did you say dinner was at your casa? ;-)
Love you blog, will be back often!
