Today was finally the day- the canal rider called at 7:00 am and said, “You’ve got water in about 45 minutes.”
He may as well have said-
“The eagle has landed.” My husband went into high gear.
Even so, some of my plants (native plants) are really giving it their all-regardless of the drought.

PS. I bought a new camera on Overstock, so I have had fun with taking close-up shots. It was $79.99 with $2.00 shipping a while back.
It is a Pentax Optio M30, and it has settings for standard, macro, or super macro which is fun. The grapefruit, bougainvillea, and lavender photos were taken with super macro.
I wanted a giant, expensive camera that I could wear around my neck with an equally giant lens. Then in a moment of clarity I pictured myself at the flea market and a camera that fits in my pocket suits me just fine for now.
(I am putting a good face on this. I still want a giant camera with a giant lens so I look like a war reporter. The fantasy goes even further… I see myself wearing a wrinkled khaki shirt and shorts, hiking boots, Ray-Bans, and I plan to adopt an accent- sort of like Christiane Amanpour. I did minor in journalism. Sigh…)
The good thing about this not so good summer in the North East..., it has been raining almost every day and our lawn (and everybody else's) looks very nice!

Your flowers have held up well - beautiful. Great buy on the camera. I want to get a nicer one eventually, but my Kodak Easyshare will have to do for now.
ReplyDeleteYou may not be able to aim at birds and shoot nice photographs with canon sized camera. The birds may think thats the real canon!.. and fly away. [canon ~ not the Canon, the camera brand]... haha.

ReplyDeleteI truly feel so bad for all of you in the South with the drought and the water rationing. Between that and the cool, wet summer we have had here, a plane disappearing out of thin air, I am wondering what is in store for us next...
Your flowers on the other hand are doing marvelously. Go figure. Beautiful photos.
My camera is broke and I have been too lazy to get it in to get fixed. I am irritating my daughter to no end by confisgating hers. My husband gave me my camera as a Christmas gift. It takes terrible pictures. Emily's camera was less expensive than mine and it takes much better pictures. I too have fantasized about the big old camera around my neck, albeit without the National Geographic garb (khacki is not my color), since seeing my SIL with hers. She does however admit that the user guide is bigger than the bible and she really doesn't know the first thing about how to use it. But it looks great on her.
Don't know if I will hurt the hubster's feelings if I trade up. And what will I do with my perfectly good camera once it is fixed? I started a blog to write and now I am fixated on becoming a photographer.

ReplyDeleteThe war reporter picture is pretty funny. The khaki shirt has to have about 100 pockets too. camera pocket, phone pocket, lipsgtick pocket, powder pocket, nail file pocket, hair clip pocket, ....Like a purse, with sleeves.
Oh, I want to dress like that too...and maybe a jeep could ride by with a handsome man every once in awhile and take us for a ride! :)

Oh, I remember the Bougainvillea when we lived in California. I just loved them. So much glorious color. Your shots are really lovely!

So I am here to visit and will go farther back a little later but I was just feeling your emotions when that shelf gave way. I immediately thought of Tine at Enchanted Rose Studio, she does chipped china mosaics. The treasured pieces could be saved in a different medium. Or the biggest cool piece could be framed in a shadow box with maybe a pic of the whole thing.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter just bought a new camera...I think it was $1,400 or something like that...she giggles with glee with the shots she is getting...they are good. However, your new camera does an outstanding job! Half the time I grab shots with my cell phone...

It always amazes me to see Lantana being grown in gardens, as it is a noxious weed here in Australia and we keep trying to get rid of it. I have always thought it was so pretty. I am glad that somewhere its considered lovely. I love the old saying.... "the difference between a flower and a weed is only a judgement" and I think thats true of most things in life. Marilyn xoxo

I do have a big camera, and the funny thing is, people really do kind of move out of the way and let me take pix. I think they think I am the press, and I do kind of feel like it when I carry my Cannon! I'm not wearing any shorts (kahki or otherwise!) I loved your paragraph about the camera. laurie
