Iced Tea and My Back to the Wall

This evening while answering a supportive email from one of my special teacher friends, while sitting in the hotel my last night (for now) in New Normal, my heart traveled back in time to this time last year and the year before and the year before and the year before…

This special friend and I have the same birthday (May 18th) ,and she, along with another dear teaching friend, always honored my special restaurant needs- on those occasions when we talked each other into going out to lunch- which was often.

We were able to accomplish this masterly feat of split second timing because a local ladies for lunch place took our order ahead of time and had our food waiting on the table, our iced tea in to go cups.

Laura Need # 1.

Sitting with my back to the wall.  Why? We might have to shoot our way out , of course.  I came by this honest from my father of the ‘keep a tight rein’ philosophy.

Laura Need #2.

Ordering iced tea, non-flavored, with a lot of ice. A LOT OF ICE. The test? It had to last through my afternoon classes.

Laura Need #3.

Sitting at the local BBQ restaurant on Fridays, wearing my red high school shirt, surrounded by a sea of red shirted, smart (and sometimes smart aleck-thank goodness) high school teachers , my back to the wall, drinking iced tea with a lot of ice.

I am so with you on need #2. Everybody always wants less...not me. You can't get too much ice in my glass. Heck, it's iced tea, people!
Am I sensing a little Wild Bill Hickok paranoia here?

Prayers for you that things are going well in the new Normal. Happy birthday too. It is very feng shui to not have your back to any door. Also kind of common sense, who wants to be snuck up on?

You and my husband... back against the wall. Is that a Valley thing too?? LOL
And... lots of ice in the tea. Yes, indeed.
Take care, Miss Laura.

I am such an ice freak. either in my glass or in my mouth being crunched. I got it honestly from my mum. I love ice tea too so it's the perfect blend.

Happy Belated Birthday to you!!

My husband won't sit with his back to a restaurant. So I can't fight him for the wall seat. He's bigger than me.
I love sweet tea. Can't find it much in Texas. I was surprised when I moved here.
Glad you had fun reminicing about the good ole days.

This is so funny. I get the "philosophy". I believe it also came from the days of the cavemen when the male had to keep watch over his family. At least that is what my husband told me and he should know... ;-)

I love lots of ice too. We had an English nanny for awhile and she didn't take ice in anything. Apparently, they just keep their drinks cold in the fridge and pour them straight up. I have seen this with other Europeans as well. If you have ever seen the size of their refridgerators and freezers, you can see why.

Many thoughts and prayers still going out to you and your family...

xoxo
