While driving down the road to the flea market earlier this afternoon, to try and find this again-
I got sidetracked by this.
Out of the corner of my eye , I saw a man on the side of the road with a trailer full of limestone. Keep in mind, this is an unusual sight where I live. This is not exactly limestone country- maybe caliche - but not limestone.
I performed a traffic violation, pulled onto the side of the road and began to negotiate a price for a large pile of flat limestone pieces.
Time Out: Picture this. We are standing on the side of the road. There is no scale. There is nothing to weigh this mountain of stone. The owner said it was a pallet, which was about a trillion pounds, which ordinarily went for a million dollars, but today I could have it all for $65. He was also willing to deliver it to my house and unload it.
So I said yes.
Some of you who know far more than I do about buying stone may think I paid too much.Others may think I didn’t pay too much, and many of you may be wondering why in the world I wanted this big pile of limestone.
I do not know. I just had to have it.
Surely someone can relate to that.
Oh! The possibilities! Would love to see what you do with the stone. Hope you are having a great weekend.

Oh we do all kinds of things with limestone at my house. You are so creative that I am sure you will do something wonderful with it! Have a wonderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteThose are great ~ can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteWe have tons of fireplaces in Indiana made with Indiana Limestone! I took one out of our house when we remodeled. You'll have fun creating.....won't have to spray paint it white! LOL! Thanks for visiting my blog! Luanne
ReplyDeleteLimestone is so hot right now so I'd say you got a bargain. Good for you! And what a great story!!!
ReplyDeleteOK. You just got a major deal on that limestone.
ReplyDeleteI bought a pallet of flagstone last year. About $600.00 delivered.
I've never seen anyone selling limestone on the side of the road.
They would make good borders for your flowerbeds.
Now why don't I ever see such wonderful things on the side of the road?? Time to pull out my aluminum folding chair, insulated glass full of Coke Zero with store-bought ice, and a broad-brimmed hat and just camp out on the edge of your yard. I HAVE to see what you're going to do with all that rock.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Kravitz!
The stone is BEAUTIFUL. $65 is a steal! Better start looking through magazines for ideas.
ReplyDeleteThat is a deal and a half...well worth risking a traffic ticket! I love limestone and have it around my pond with a little patio built out away from it. You've got a lot to work with! What is that first photo of...it is gorgeous!

What beautiful stone! And you got a deal.... Can't wait to see what you do with it. I love limestone and I think it's sort of like that little black dress. The options are endless.
ReplyDeleteI would be laying out a meandering path to my most favorite spot in the garden. Lay them loosely about 3" apart from each other so grass can grow up in between (to be kept mowed and manicured of course) and then sit back with a nice cold tea or lemonaide and enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. Your just a hoot!
For ...some reason...I don't have a doubt in the world that in the back of your mind you have a good idea what you want to do with them. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stones and beautiful deal!! Good for you!!

Great buy Laura... and just think... you don't even have to spray paint it white! WOW!

hugs & blessings. Dixie
Send that man to Alabama! I need to finish my back garden!

Hello Kindred Spirit! Thanks for visiting my blog. Now -- limestone --- I have no idea what it's worth is, but I'm with you. I too would have come screeching to a halt and chopped off my left arm for that limestone. Oh, what a person could do with it......
