OK, So That’s Not All I Bought

Our first day at Round Top, we hit upon a seller out in what we call the desert.  The desert is an enormous field filled with tents; there are no trees, and therefore no place to hide.

This milk glass bowl was $4 and a no brainer.  Sometimes the price just does it all, right?

 

Same reasoning for the hammered aluminum ice bucket which was also $4. She was a very nice lady and not just because of the price. That is the hard to describe experience that is Round Top.  Everywhere you turn, there are people with whom you can connect.

Then there was one of my favorite places to visit because I think it illustrates a lifestyle I could easily adopt. A wonderful woman sells antiques out of her barn which is adjacent to her house. She also sells this amazing homemade raspberry vinaigrette.  In the short story that I created in my head about her life/my life, she gathers her stock to sell all year long while stockpiling jars of vinaigrette to sell to loyal customers.  I rank this right up there with my James Lee Burke fantasy of owning and operating a bait shop in Louisiana.

And finally, I bought this- wrinkled and straight out of the sack.

I have been obsessed with aprons lately. Through blogging, I have discovered that others are as well. This one was $10 and hanging on a rack outside.  The elderly couple manning the booth looked like kinfolk. In fact I bought this because I want to be like, act like my Grandmother Mills.  When she had her apron on, good things were happening for those she loved.

When I mentioned that to the lady who made them she replied, “Oh honey.”

Post Script:  I wrote this post yesterday. I am posting it this morning to ask for prayers. My father , of the keep a tight rein quote , is in the hospital.
