Real Food

It's time for Sunday Favorites again thanks to Chari at Happy to Design.

I think this is the greatest idea because we can all share some of our favorite posts from days past.

I do not profess to be an expert at authentic Mexican food preparation, but I know people who are, and they recommend this tiny, small town cookbook, South Texas Mexican Cookbook.

Created by a home economics teacher , Lucy Garza from Falfurrias, Texas, it is often used as the go to wedding gift for new brides. A dear friend of mine gave one to our oldest daughter when she got married.

Regardless of whether or not you aspire to create authentic Mexican fare or not, this little cookbook shares all the secrets of a home cook ,as opposed to what you might find on a Tex-Mex menu somewhere.

To add to the fun is colored Fiesta of course. After all, the name means party.
It is a great backdrop for this type of food, unless of course you own Talavera from Dolores Hidalgo or Puebla.

That topic will require a completely new post, it is so amazing...

  3. I have an old cookbook called the Deaf Smith County Cookbook that has some really good Mexican recipes in it. Definitely not Tex-Mex.

  6. Hi Laura...

My friend, I'm just so glad that you decided to join in with the "Sunday Favorites" fun again this week!!!

I love this post! You know, since I lived in South Texas for over 30 yrs...and not far from Falfurrias, you'd think I would have heard of this TexMex Cookbook...but I haven't! I bet it does have some fabulous recipes...in my opinion, no one can cook Mexican food like they do in South Texas! hehe!!! I'm living in Colorado now and it's so difficult finding good Mexican food! Girl, you can't even get fresh tortillas anywhere around here...now that should tell you something! Hehe!

I love the bright colors of Fiestaware! And you left a little "teaser" at the end of your post...something about Talavera??? Do you have a set? They are gorgeous!!!

Well my friend...great post and thank you for sharing it once again with all of us...it was new to me!

    Have a super Sunday!
    Warmest wishes,
    Chari

  11. I love Fiesta Ware. One of my favorites.
I haven't seen that cookbook either. The only Texas cookbook I have is from the Junior League.
I'll look for it when I'm out and about.
